Cloudy white carbon fibre hugger fix?
Does anyone know of the best way to permanently fix cloudy carbon fibre?
I found this old thread with pics, mine looks almost as bad. I've tried polishing/buffing/re-waxing as was suggested. It works and looks like new for a while, but the problem returns when it gets wet. I think the clearcoat (or gelcoat?) has failed and water is getting under the finish. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/bmw-r1100s-r1200s-tech-forum/178981-white-rear-fender.html I'm starting to think that the only fix is to sand and re-clear coat it. Has anyone ever done that? Are there any types of clearcoat that should be avoided with CF? Anyone else found a permanent solution to this problem? |

that's what worked for mine. generic rattle can of clear, good to go.

I spent a couple of hours sanding and re coating and haven't had any problems with water or fading, Not a hard job.

Thanks for the comments, I'll give that a shot.

Lots of resins are sensitive to UV - early exhaust cannisters were horrible for this. When you recoat, look for something that'll block those pesky rays.
