Steve Gowing custom saddle

As promissed,..here's an update of my new saddle, I should be recieving it next week. The total cost including shipping,..$364. For that I got a more anotomically shaped seat w/ a little softer / thicker muti density foam & a duel texture cover that at least gives the look of a smaller stock seat,..I opted not to
have the gel-pad insert installed for a little extra $$. As soon as I get the saddle and log some miles, I'll give a full report. All in all, to me it looks great and I can't wait to recieve it. It was built on my stock pan so I know it'll fit .
I'm trying to put up some pix but attachment tab won't respond.( I NEED TECH. SUPPORT ! ) Bye the way , this is for my '03 R1100s

Which bike is this for? I need some help with the R12S. Seems no one (at least not Sargeant, which would be my first choice) makes a more comfortable seat. (They offer two choices for the F800GS but nothing for the R12S.)

I don't think I know how to properly load pics, but I upload to a photobucket account and insert the IMG code in to the text. In the message box you can hit the A/A it will switch pic to txt for easy of typing.

I know you've heard of Rick Mayer, right? He should be able to create a seat? ??? idk

Sargent will recover and refoam your stock R12S seat on your seat base.
You'll have to send it to them and they quote about 3 weeks.
You're correct that they do not offer a replacement seat.
I got a 2nd seat from eBay for $71 and will eventually have Sargent re-foam it.

Ken, Sargeant told me they could do that when I ordered the one for the F8GS. Would you just have them refoam? The shape of the seat is good for sport riding but my upper legs go a bit numb in less than an hour on it. So....I'm not sure what to tell them.

I'm gonna do a Sargeant seat at some point, and I want it a little thicker to cut down the hip angle. That would make my long rides better.

I'm thinking I just need high density foam where my leg meets the seat. Would be interesting to hear what folks have done and what has worked. I'd hate to spend $300+ and it not solve the problem.

They'll refoam and recover.
They can't reuse the stock cover so you'll have to send them the pillion pad to match. Their standard foam, which is firmer than stock should do it but I don't think anyone can guarantee it will solve your individual issue.
IMO, the stock foam is too soft where the back of my thigh leaves the narrow, front part of the seat. I'd think a firmer density foam will solve my issue in that area.

I had and liked the Corbin saddle on my old R12S, I remember feeling it was a much better seating position. Combined with the Helibars I found the combo perfect for my comfort, the longest stint I did in one sitting was arounnd three hours, and no complaints.

shreddr 03-27-2011 08:56 AM

i actually like the stock seat, the angle seems right, the foam feels to be the right density, and they have those channels that helps with the inner thigh contact area. i just want about a half inch more height. if I did a corbin I would send them the stock seat and ask them to recover it. that way you dont get the cast iron POS base they put on all their seats!

Well, for me, have lost 34 lbs. to date and still my BMI says I'm obese, I could use a touch firmer foam............:D

No Ken your just pleasantly plump:D

My red seat was redone by Rick Mayer. I lost the channels, but the seat helps me go on far longer in a day.
