System Case Question...

So I'm new to this system case thing. I got my rails mounted (note: having to modify the canister bracket so I could mount the rails turned a 1-hour job into a 3-hour job) and I got my cases on.

Rather, I got my cases on with difficulty.

The right side goes on no problem.

The left side is a bit difficult. It appears that the tongue that comes out and latches to the bottom of the rail doesn't always want to fully extend. I sometimes have to get a finger in there to coax it forward and get it to slot into the groove on the rail.

Can this be adjusted? Or does it need to be replaced? Is this a common issue?

Or is my technique just wrong?

Never heard of such a thing... you really still have the canister installed?

Operating the handles of the cases when off the bike, does it appear that the "tongue" on the left case extends as far as the right one? Mine fit fine, even after replacing the inner part of the left bag when I was rear-ended a few years ago.

Is there any slop in the handle mechanism? I don't think I've ever tried manually pulling that piece out with my fingers while moving the handle...

Yes, my canister is still installed. At the time I went to install the cases I didn't have the time or materials to perform a canisterectomy on it. Aside from being a pain in the ass, it doesn't seem to adversely affect the bike for me, so I just opted to leave it on.

I had to leave town for a couple days but I'm back and will try and post pics if I can get them. It may just be me learning to operate the darned things.

Just kidding about the can. This is a link to my thread about replacing the system case inner, which required removing the handle/lock mechanism, if that's of any help.
