OT Boot size to big or too small
Hey Folks, I just bought a cool of pair Axo boots. I tried a pair size 8 way too tight had to use thin socks. Next size is 9 feels a bit loose use thicker socks OK but not perfect. Have yall noticed that more and more manufacturers are going 7,8,9,10...on boot sizes? not cool.

Yah mate, hear ya!
AXO if I'm correct are a Italian Boot! I had a pair myself. I'm a 8 size! If no half sizes yes you have to make it up with socks. Size 9 for winter + 2 pair of socks. Size 8 for summer with thin pair of socks. |

um...well...italian boots, like most europeans, don't come in 8, 9, 10, etc..
they come in 43, 44, 45... you can get pretty close with this: Motonation Boot Sizing Guide like americans and their wide interpretation of M, L and XL t-shirts, italians seem to have different ideas of what size a boot size really is. the better boot companies are happy to exchange sizes for you. |

bradz you are right in th Euro sizes. But this makes it even crazier. 42 is 8, next size is 43 which US vendors convert to 9.5 then 44 is 10. This is for Sidi boots. nuts.

It really all depends on the shoe last that is used to fabricate the shoe. That's why the same style shoe by a different manufacturer can fit with a different size stamped on it.

Yup, this makes online boot buying a serious challenge. On top of that if you think you got it covered with a single brand manufacturers also vary sizes within their ranges. Sheesh!

online boot buying can be painless.
if you get the wrong size, my guys will send you another size, you decide, then send back the pair you don't want. also keep in mind that touring boots are designed to fit a little bigger, because they're assuming you'll be wearing significant socks. road racing boots are designed to fit snugly and the assumption is that you'll wear a very thin sock, if any at all. sizes are designed purposely to vary slightly based on the design's intended use. as far as 42 is 8, 43 is 9.5 then 44 is 10, they're not exact to american sizes and fractions, but they're as close as they can get. in some boots a 43 is about an 8.3, 44 is closer to 9 than 9.5 and a 44 is about a 10.2. then again, it depends on who/what you're comparing to (ergo, the motonation boot sizing guide). if you want to really go crazy, hit the running shoe store, have them pull each brand's version of what you "think" is your shoe size, and try them all on. some will fit, others too big, others too small. but they all claim to be the same size. shoe and boot sizes are as much opinion as they are definitive measurements. helmets, jackets and gloves also have their own versions of sizes from brand to brand and from design to design. a size 52 leather jacket is in not even close to the same as a size 52 dualsport jacket. I had this problem with my two pairsof Sidi Vertigo's... I have one pair that is a 42, and fit snug like a glove. The 'Air' vented equivalent boot is a 43 cause the 42 was too small. It fits loose. They should really come out with .5 sizes for us odd ball guys.

I bought one size bigger for my touring boots because your feet swell, yada yada. They were fine when riding but I do actually need to walk around a bit, and they were uncomfortable.
I'm without a doubt a 44 in all my Sidi's now. Street, dirt, touring and bicycle.

I normally wear size 11.5 American.
Not 11, not 12. Sidi sport boots in size 46 fit perfectly. I use Sidi socks and have been very happy with the fit. Been wearing Sidi since 1979 - I ani't switching now. IMO, they're the best boot going...

yea, they're great boots, but from the other side of the fence, it would be a little nicer if the friggin' things would wear out.
i mean, it's understandable when guys wear out soles. they sure as hell didn't wear them out walking around. but sometimes it's a little disheartening when i go riding with guys who's sidi boots are five, six, seven years old, they love 'em and would never switch. they're already thinking about new soles "in a few seasons". you think to yourself "sheesh, these guys are never gonna pony up for new boots and i'll never see the few pennies that trickle my way because of it." i'm beginning to feel like the guy who engraves tombstones. damn things just don't wear out fast enough to warrant regular replacement. in hindsight, i shoulda hooked up with some tire importer instead. ('specially now that i know a certified tire mounter guy). |

I have a pair of these in exceptional condition that I might sell; but they are a size US 10. Even still have the box.

I often fall between sizes, but for me going to the next larger size works best, and then playing with a combination of insoles and socks. The insoles I like are the Spenco Polysorb, and they make them in a couple of different thicknesses.

if you try combinations of thick and thin socks, you can get pretty creative.
after munching my left foot on a basketball-size rock eons ago, it got, and stayed, a little bigger than the right foot. some boots i work with require a regular thickness sock on the right, and a skin sock on the left. socks are shims for your feet. they come in a wide variety of thicknesses. |

I let my toenails grow out, then trim till the boot fits.
