New BCR buying question
I looked at a boxer cup which was close to the ocean. It has some rust/oxidation on the front fork and around wishbone suspension. Most of the screws are rusty. Is this normal wear and tear and can be taken care of easily or should I flee away from the bike?

Depends. Minor oxidation here and there is probably just cosmetic and can be corrected with new fasteners and some TLC, but if it is prevasive, I'd be concerned about long-term issues with things like the electrics. And on a bike like this, cosmetics matter to most people.
And if the bike was neglected in terms of storage and cleaning, this reflects poorly on the owner's attention to maintenance. The devil is in the details on something like this. - Mark |

True that. The front fork and the wish bone I can swipe the rust off. But as for electronics, I dont see that many rust. Most of the crews are rusted not sure if they would come off or break before I can unscrew them. Unfortunately the guy used to ride it along the coast which in my opinion is the root cause as most of you would agree. Its not about negligence as much as how to fix the problem if I decide to buy the vehicle.

Are you referring to this bike, that was for sale in Santa Monica a month ago?
![]() If so I ended up buying it. Besides a burnt out taillight and a desperate need for new tires it has been great. I've put 3,000 miles on it in the last 3 weeks with no issues. It'll take a little work to clean up and make perfect again. But nothing I can't handle. |
