VW bug clutch discs are almost drop ins for 1100s bikes:
180mm clutch disk BMW vs VW - ADVrider I'd bought a 4 puck spring clutch disc from Udo Gietl in the late 1970s for my R90 roadracer & was pleased with the results .. after sending it to a Balance Shop to have it's balance corrected which is necessary with all clutch replacement: send the new Pressure Plate - Clutch Disc to a Pro Automotive Machine Shop that does Balancing or find a shop .. like E.E.Lindskog in Mass. who did the Butler & Smith Inc R90s DAYTONA race bikes for Udo Gietl & Todd Schuster. If you intend to use a Ceramic _ Sintered Clutch Material .. as Udo Gietl stated: YOU MUST HAVE YOUR NEW CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE HEAT TREATED elsewise the pressure plate surface will be eaten away. Couldn't find anyone carrying Performance Clutch Discs all set for BMW's but I did find a supplier for the almost exact VW units. Measure the splined hub on your disc .. the side toward the Trans is Longer than the side toward the engine. Depending upon the Input Shaft you have .. the early short one where the disc is literally falling off the shaft end & your splines are shot .. or the replacement Longer Shaft .. where you can determine how much to trim or not from the splined hub area of the clutch disc.. Then get it balanced at an Automotive Race Engine Balance Machine Shop. I found a Manufacturer who has all of the Performance VW style clutch discs ever made . . not an easy task and most likely THE ONLY ONE in existence. I have ZERO affiliation with them .. I'm posting their URL as a FAVOR to US Owners so it doesn't get lost in the sauce: Well worth the effort to then have a KEVLAR ultra light Clutch Disc : http://clutchnet.com/clutches/browse/10120-clutch-discs?sef=hc ![]() Ultra Light Kevlar spring clutch disc ![]() Tri Puck spring hub clutch disc ![]() Four puck spring clutch disc ![]() Six Puck spring clutch disc ![]() Der Uber Carbon Fiber spring clutch disc ![]() ![]() .
