Solution To Spine Problem

Chrome U-clamps from McMaster Carr with rubber-covered passenger floorboards from JCWhitney, total $55. They work great, no leg or back pain! Maybe no need to sell bike now. Will see after a few thousand miles. Plus, they fold up against the valve cover protector plastic, very inconspicuous. Just an idea, for what it's worth.

Hope it works for you. I had some "work" done on my back in January. Back and leg pain are debilitating.

I knew I was officially "old" last weekend when I had been riding my R100 cafe with clubman bars for 60 miles and I had the thought "hmm, maybe it's time to put S bars back on this bike."

It's the weight of the beast that's getting to me these days.

Will be posting pics soon. Rode about 90 miles today with no pain at all, like the earlier days. The floorboards make all the difference in the world, but still need some adjustment. When folded up, they are inside the valve cover area and you can do all the twistie-turnies you want. My problem is non-generative spinal stenosis, and being able to stretch my legs does the trick. You can look at the floorboards (Emgo) on the JCWhitney website. I used stainless connecting nuts: one end bolts to the stainless 5/16" x 18 U-clamp, and I re-tapped the other end of the connecting nut to fit the Emgo floorboards (3/8" x 24). You can set the floorboards at both up and down angles vertically and horizontally. The whole setup is chrome and polished stainless, total cost of less than $60, assuming you have a tap and dye set. With the floorboards in the up position, all you see is a small chrome plate. As I said earlier, photos very soon.

Flatbutt: If you're short like me (I'm only 5'7") with a 28" inseam. I got a pair of good $30 hiking boots from Walmart and had a local shoe shop put a 1" hard foam upper sole in the top of them for $60. Can't tell they're even there. Plus, the VA has been giving me an exercise program for leg strength. Since my spinal senosis isn't degenerative, I'm getting a titanium insert with teflon the docs say will solve the problem for many years. No need to sell the bike now. Just something to pass along. Plus, the 4X4 passenger floorboards from JCWhitney under the head are a wonder when a leg begins to hurt, and they fold right up out of the way.
