Mexican Jumping Sand

Didn't see the sand on top of the chip seal - it was freshly applied topping to the shoulder where vehicles had been cutting the slow to 25 or 30 corner and tossing it into the lane....had a pretty decent low side. Thank goodness for good leathers. I'm 100% ok after a brisk and lengthy slide.

This should buff right out.

Bought these pants 3 weeks ago...

Sorry to hear, and glad you are ok looks like you had good gear and it did its job! I'm sure your 12S is a nice bike but lucky it wasn't the HP2.

Oh man that sucks, glad you are okay and the bike looks pretty fixable, but I'm sure it still really really sucks.

Motherf*****!

Very glad about your selection of gear, and equally sad about your once-beautiful bike Peter.

Thank you guys. The bike is totally fixable. A bit concerned about the gravel in there. No big hits involved - big slide. Just have to see how the insurance plays out..I have it insured well. Best case would be a write off and sell back to me for peanuts and then I would have a project to do. This will be perfect once again - either they do it or I do. Too few R1200S out there to let anything else go down. And yes, glad it wasn't the HP2S...but I do love this bike and will make sure it gets the proper treatment.

I insured the HP2S today and I bought a 2009 Beta 525RR today to add to the stable and ease my sorrow.

Good gear is always repaying for itself in avoided medical bills!

Weren't you considering selling that baby ? Hopefully you'll get it sorted out soon, good for you the stable is full so you have some other horse to beat in the meantime

No doubt the gear served its purpose, but I don't like the fact that the seam failed. Those were probably expensive pants, should hold up better than that in a crash, it looks like they are only single stitched. I would expect better from Dainese.

Ya they were. I found a nice Dainese jacket on craigslist and had to get the pants to fit. $460 plus tax. Fortunately my gear is insured as well. It is double stitched. A row is done and then it is folded back over and another row is done that you see. the sideways slide wore through the leather and ate the "protected" row as well as the row you see. That said it would be comforting to have a better way. Under that hole is the stitched in ass/hip pad that was still there to do some more work.

well, a slide is better than a roll - for both parties concerned

glad you're alright mate

washed out the front on a right hander? did you both make it onto the other side of the road??

Well it was at LCP sporting pace let's say. And yes, a slide is much preferred. We both eventually ended up in the ditch (the bike further) on the right side road. The rear slid out - i guess the front tracked on line for a bit. Here's my new steed. Well almost, it has 908 KM's and I paid half retail.
