How does this part attach?

While washing / waxing the S yesterday, I noticed that this part was sitting further back then normal. I tried to push it forward, like it normally sits, but the cover refused to budge. How is this part held in place? Is there supposed to be a 1/2-3/4" gap between the lip on the engine and the front of the cover?

There is an allen head bolt by the shift linkage and two pins (I think) in the front, that hold it on. The pins have rubber grommets covering them and over time, the rubber loosens up. I just push mine forward occasionally. Your cover may not push forward all the way because of the way that the battery cable is attached to the starter motor (which is behind the cover). It comes off fairly easy, so you can see how it is attached and move the cable on the starter motor if needed. Hope this helps.
