Wassman Lifters For a Airhead Boxer??
Just on an outside chance............does anyone on the list have, or know where I can get, a set of four, new or used, "Wassman Lifters" that were made in a very small number (50-100 sets total ever made) for the BMW teams of the mid seventies. The 76 Daytona BMW had them in it for instance, as did other boxer race bikes of the time. Anyone ever heard of these light weight lifters, or better yet, know where to get any. TIA. (Fit of airhead fever going on down here in Florida....) I would like to find a used set if possible.

Good Morning Dean, yes I talked to Chris and this is partly about one of his projects. I am trying to find a used set because I may be sending him a "new" set for the 750 project San Jose is doing for the speed flats. The record is now held by a 750-cc Moto Guzzi and they are trying to get a little more out of the bike. Lighting up the valve train is very helpful and the Wassman units weight slightly over 1/3 less than stock and don't break the way the stock ones do when high RPM combines with strong valve springs high seat pressures. Less lifter weight lets one use lower pressure valve spring pressures as you know. Hope to see you in Georgia/N.C. this year Dean.

I had a feeling you guys were working together.
We can't move until our place sells. We closed on the new place yesterday, can't wait.

Equivalent closed all-steel lifters can be bought here in Germany. They are offered from several sources. I could provide pictures if needed. Regards, Rudi |

Thank you very much Rudi, and what a honor to get this information from you. I was very taken with the weight of the ones from Motoren-Isreal because if I was reading the specs right they are slightly lighter than the ones I was looking for. Perhaps Rudi you can direct me to anyone who has tried carbon fiber pushrods in their airheads that have already had the valve train worked on for absolute lightness............I located a guy that would build up me a set of carbon fiber lifters with their face and top socket buttons glued in place........but I did not spring for the price back then and got the Wizemann units instead. Thanks again Rudi, I will write them.

Hello Jim,
the all steel lifters I'm talking about are not from Motoren Israel. HPN and Siebenrock (and others) offer them. Don't know who makes them, probably Mahle. They are 34 grams, so they're slightly lighter than the Wassmann lifters. And they're cheaper than the Motoren-Israel parts (~250 Euros the set). I'll send you some pictures. I've never heard of anyone offering carbon fiber pushrods here. I've heard of several guys trying to fabricate them, but no success story so far. Best regards, Rudi |
