Stevens Pass to Lake Chelan

In the 70s and 80s I had a friend with a family cabin near 25 Mile Creek at the end of the road on the south side of Lake Chelan, WA. Beautiful place that I miss visiting. I always wonder if there was a short-cut using forest service roads to save some mileage. About ten years ago I tried going up river from Entiat and over Shady Pass to 25 Mile Creek. The S was turned back at around 5,000' elevate when I ran into snow. Last week I decided to give it another try with the F650GS Twin. Driving time to 25 Mile Creek on pavement is three hours.

I left home at 9AM and headed for Steven Pass on Hwy. 2 then turned onto the dirt. Arrived at 25 Mile Creek at 4PM then made it home by 7PM. Saved about 20+ miles but took an extra four hours. Is this a short-cut? Had the GPS set to shorter route which has caused some problems in the past. Ended up on some single track with a fallen tree to drag the bike under. Also had my camera battery die just as I started up to 6,200' Shady Pass and the best scenery. Must have left it on in my tank bag.

Yes,
The shortcut was dragging the bike under the fallen tree...

You need to buy a spare battery...
EN-EL9 ??
Not that much...

I have three batteries but I only took one that was fully charged as there was no plan to shoot a bunch. Sometimes it gets turned back on as I put it away. Oops!

awesome! that looks like some serious wilderness! I would need to recalibrate my brain if I was going to get that far off the beaten track. In NJ you are never too far from a major highway!

Shreddr;

That's the way it is in the northwest............come to Canada, there is even more wilderness.

EZ........the Pine Beetle up here usually turns the trees a reddish colour.

Hey RB, I sent you a pm.

Cheers

My possibly incorrect research tells me that it was the Tyee Creek fire...

I eat pine beetle dust for breakfast. I'd never be without, out west!

I think I'll go eat some eastern beetle dust now.

Hee Hee, better to blather about things you know, eh?

I guess fire too - the edge of it lines up too perfectly with the ridge line. (I used to work at Mt. Pilchuck in this region, so this is "informed" blather!)

Hey RB;

You should invest in a Personal Locator Beacon
since you are taking these trips by yourself.
