Corbin seat feedback request
I just purchased a mandarin yellow 99 r1100s. So far I am really digging the bike. But the stock seat has to go. Corbin looks like the quickest fix. My question is, is the corbin seat completely flat? Or, does it slope forward like the stocker? I have looked at the pics on corbin's website and it does look flat, but I would like to hear from someone who actually owns one.
Thanks Rod |

Personal preference, but I find the Corbin to be too hard. I went with the Sargent.

Love my Corbin.
Is flat, I don't slide forward. Looks right with the colored welting. Is true that it is not soft, love it that way.

Yea the corbin is hard but is it flat front to back? Does it cause you to slide forward like the stocker?

Seats
I have two BMW that were purchased used that had Corbin seats. Agree with the above poster, they are WAY too hard for my a$$.
I start getting discomfort at about 200 miles and would not ever attempt over 300 in one day without using an AirHawk on either RT or S. Hear that Sargent is much better seat for comfort. If you can find a used Corbin at the right price, try it and see if it serves you well. Afterall, they do sell a ton of product. However, would never recommend someone purchase a Corbin new as they will be disappointed and probably mad. Have only hear a few folks on different makes and models that enjoy a Corbin. And frankly, I feel they may be lying like I did in the 80s with a set of Recaro auto seats in a sports car once owned. After you spend all that money and discover the seat is horrible, one does not want to be admit that they spent big bucks on something that is a worthless. When people ask me what I thought of Recaro, my answer was "The best thing ever purchased. Wonderful." Nathan |

Corbin is also a tank in comparison to weight of a Sargent.
My used S-bike came with both plus the OEM. I kept only the Sargent... ![]()

Looked at pics of the sargent. Looks like it slopes forward a bit like the stocker. That concerns me.

I love my Corbin. It is flat and doesn't send you sliding into the tank like the stocker. The Sargent may be better but I have no experience with them. You will be able to click off hundreds of miles daily on a Corbin and be comfy even though it is not real cushy.

I've never had a sergent so I can't comment on their comfort. I still prefer a firmish seat. Seems to me the corbin is firm but the pan is spacious and as such the contact area is large keeping specific loading low.. But then I've never had any problem with Recaro's either.
![]() IMHO sergent doesn't look as sexy.

Recaro
Maybe it was the car the Recaros were in- a Fiero.
![]() Everybody does have a different build and like. For me, Corbin just doesn't do it. However, the Corbin on RT does have pogo stick style backrest that I really like. The S Corbin does have a passenger insert slot for the same backrest used for a second rider. Wife really likes it. So Corbin does score a point for me. But gosh are they a hard seat. Nathan |

Rod,
You don't mention your location...besides Corbin or Sargent alternatives have you considered smaller custom seat makers? I've owned Corbins (GS1000S, 2 Ducati 900SS's) and a Sargent (R1150R) and I agree with other comments about relative merits/liabilities of each brand. In summary if you do mostly shortish rides, a Corbin could be a good choice, but they take some "break-in" time. The Sargent's are a little more cushy, but seem to make the reach to the ground a bit challenging for the shorter of inseam folks. Me...? I have a Rick Mayer seat that he custom fit to me in his shop. Best seat I've had...yet! Good luck! Bill J |

I'm in Oregon and am aware of Rick Mayer and recently visited his web site. He does an awesome job but seems a little too spendy for me at this time. I like the passenger backrest option you get with the corbin. I had a corbin on a previous fjr and liked the firmness and the large seating platform. Thanks everyone for all your feedback. I will probably get a corbin. Anyone have a used one for sale? Thanks Rod |

Rod,
That Corbin backrest option is pretty sweet. My smarter half no longer rides with me anymore (ten years of owning Ducati's will do that!) so that wasn't an issue. Hope you can get used to the Corbin, took awhile but I managed to get comfy with it. Did a few 800 mile days on a '96 900SS/SP, so guess it wasn't THAT horrid. ![]() I was lucky when I decided to get my RMS seat, he was having a half price sale at the time. And my lodging in the area was free at a relatives house in the area. A one day ride down, overnight stay, then a couple hours in his shop while he fit me up. Did some backroads of Oregon on the way home with another night in McMinnville to visit the Evergreen Aviation museum... ![]() Cheers, Bill J |

Corbin is not only flat but wide and hard.
I put one on my r1100s for a few years, then went with a Wunderich and liked it a lot.

My 01 came with Corbin and stock seat. I had a Corbin on my 02 RT as well. Hate'em! Sold the RT Corbin and had a Russell DayLong built....Nirvana. R1100S stock seat sucks more than the RT stock seat. My Corbin on the 11S split a seam recently. I added some 2" high density foam to it and had the seam repaired.......it's much better now BUTT, I wish I had DayLong comfort on the R1100S. With that said........
I've never owned a Seargent but I would recommend it over a Corbin based on experience..... Hawk

What Craig says it also puts me too far back & it weighs a ton. I've got the Wunderlich seat & had sargent put in their supercell padding & recover it. They did an excellent job & the seat is even more comfortable than originally.

It seems a paradox how guys want every available bit of carbon fiber to save at most at few ounces, then install the porky Corbin which truly weighs a bunch. I've owned several of theirs, including a couple ordered for my former FJ1200 plus a poorly built custom saddle for a touring Yammie by a Corbin "wizard" in their while-you-wait shop (subsequently returned for full credit). I won't own another but then that's just me. Hey, they do have a nice showroom and cafe' worth a visit in Hollister...

No try, do or not do

I had the Corbin Smuggler on my BCR and it was much better than stock especially in the family jewels area, it was pretty hard though and it also weighed as much as the rest of the bike!
![]() I bought the Sargent for the R12S, it was saddle nirvana and I thought the stocker was OK. I am tempted to get one for the HP2 but it is the best stocker by far of the 3 R-bikes I have had.

At one time, like a lot of the r1100s aftermarket parts in the 1999-2000 early eras, the Corbin was about all you could get. They were the first mover. So there are probably more Corbin's floating around out there. Kind of like the pipe to get was the Staintune...
