...nothing to cheer about, Chris.
That usually keeps the Pom-Pom section quiet. Sadly, it looks like the title is out of the picture now. I was not happy to see Sykes run such a great #1 race, just to get taken out of contention by an engine failure in the second race... you just can't help but like the guy. I hope the big green monster will be sorted out for next year. I would like to see him win the title.

It's a shame for the championship because a new face taking the title would have done no harm at all,I just hope they haven't missed their chance, because if Ducati get the weight limit lifted, and Honda at long last look like getting proper factory support and the new V4 in 014,it'll become even tougher to win the title. Also a shame for Sykes to get so close,he broke a piston,he and Kawasaki have put a lot of work in over the last few weeks to put it mildly!!. |

It IS a shame, as I think BMW have finally put a potential championship bike together. The team and Melandri took a bit to gel, coming on a bit late, and then really botching it (the rider) near the end. But, the bike does seem to have a pretty narrow operating window, and that can cause even a really good pilot to override things. So close...

To give folks some insight into the effort teams put in,Sykes is on the way home from the German round 1 hour plane ride, phone rings e'rrrr Tom can you go to Japan when?? now,I won't say what for but thats the finer detail thats going on with all the teams.
The only thing that bothers me with the BM lot is I get a gut feeling their going the same way as Aprillia, everything revolves around one man,the second rider is just towing the line rather than being an equal, time will tell. |

The best quote I have seen yet, and very to the point..............
"Not the sharpest racer in the field is Melandri. Turned and 18.5 point advantage over Biaggi into a 57 point deficit in 3 races. That's got to be some sort of a record for throwing away an advantage without a breakdown or injury? Will BMW live it down without holding it against Marco? We will have to wait and see. 1st World Championship down the drain. Oops." My feelings, and the feeling of many others who had hoped that this would become BMW's first WSB title............A real shame......... But, there is always a chance, however slim, but this "throw away" by BMW's collective team and luck is surely a downturn. |

It is sad, Jim... but it also is racing.
If the whole thing would be predictable, it would be boring. The BMW is (much like the Kawi) a very finicky bike, it seems... sometimes they manage to get the setup right, sometimes they don't. This was very evident in the case of Sykes in race one... during the break, the Kawasaki team made some changes that turned the bike from barely rideable into the winning machine. Sometimes you are the bird, sometimes the statue.
