R12S Ohlins Suspension Sorted
I put up with disappointingly harsh suspension all year, unable to dial it out without going so soft it ruined the great handling. So I decided to get it overhauled by a specialist. The front was ok and just needed a service, but the rear had internal damage and required new parts.
When I picked the bike up he gave me the shaft that caused the damage, and there is a tiny blemish on the surface that is hard to see but can be felt with the thumb nail. It seems this little rough spot had scratched a groove in the ceramic disk and damaged a seal, all of which were replaced. The suspension was reset to factory settings, and by coincidence, I am the factory weight almost exactly so it should suit me fine. The 80 mile ride home in poor weather would indicate that the harshness has gone, but I haven't had a chance to really try her out on dry roads, but I'm excited that I may have a great R12S at last. |
