HJC RPHA Max Helmet
I'm thinking of getting one of these, does anybody here have any experience with it?

I can tell you that when Lorenzo changed to HJC his manager wore one in the shower for 40 minutes to see if the rain visor leaked or steamed up

Helmet
In the last 20 years, I have purchased two HJCs because of excellent pricing (both were DOT and Snell rated) and looks. The first one every time I wore, took Advil before to silence the headache it gave me. The second one, I still have today and might wear to the store and back. Fits terrible.
I fully realize that everyone's head is different and HJC has been around for ever with many happy users, but I would not every purchase one of their helmets because of comfort issues. And I know like motorcycle jackets that each manufacturer makes low end and some high end merchandise. HJCs I have purchased have always been in the $125-$150 MSRP range. Their upper end products might be much better. In my opinion, Shoei when you find one on sale or Arai if you can afford are the only helmets to buy. |

..and I, on the other hand, have a Symax that I wear on long distance rides that fits great and is no noisier than any other of my helmets.
The Symax doesn't do as well in the rain as the my Nolan 104 but it feels lighter and fits best. Very subjective, this helmet thing. |

boxa, its a $400 helmet, inline with some arai and shoei/etc..
Anyways.. OP, I had an HJC flip up and liked it alot. I am currently shopping for a new helmet, looking at the Schuberth, need to try Arai and Shoei still... I will be adding the RPHA to my try-on list. Thanks ![]() Matt

Vett, the guy just spent an enormous amount on his motor and wants to scrimp on his helmet?
Just because it complies doesn't make it a good helmet. Thats just the minimum standard it meets. Shoei or Arai is my choice. As I said, just my opinion. Shoei Neotec Light Silver at Helmet City Dave |

It's not about scrimping, I like The HJC brand, and for sure the RPHA is on the high end and its among the lightest flip ups, plus it has visible carbon weave!

I want to give a try to the Lazer Monaco.
It has very good reviews and includes a photochromatic visor. There is also a Carbon version. LaZer Monaco Helmet - RevZilla

I tried the Lazer Monaco and returned it due to very tight fit. The general fit and finish is superior, but the shell seemed very narrow, compared to other helmets I have owned. The photo-chromatic shield is great, but the inner visor is so low in the shield that I was looking over it when riding. Revzilla says that if you wear it, you can't return it, so don't go for a test ride in one of their helmets if there is the slightest chance it is not a perfect fit.

I ended up buying this helmet, I originally ordered the XL because the reviews said they run small. I was currently wearing an HJC carbon in a large and assumed the XL was the right size. In the RPHA line the break between shell sizes occurs between large and XL, but the XL seemed too big and I am happy I decided to swap it for the large which finally arrived yesterday. It is a perfect fit and is loaded with innovations. It is as light as the previous carbon version even with the flip up, I will try to get them on the scale but in my hand they are close. The flip up works great, and there is an easy to engage sunvisor that snaps back with a button. It was interesting that in the reviews they panned the big "R" on the forehead and said it could be removed with some heat. The XL didn't have the "R" on it but had the HJC decal which I think looks better, the Large though had the "R" and its paint not a plastic stick on. Maybe I will put a BMW emblem on it!
The helmet also came with a stack of pin-lock tear offs, and some spare parts. It was $382 from Sport Track Gear.On my previous HJC carbon I was using the HARD display for the radar, and an Interphone so I could get calls (the wife wondering when i'm coming home ) I don't know where I can mount the HARD display in the flip up, and am not sure I want anything hanging off the back or side. I think the Interphone hanging off the side creates some serious wind noise at speed. I am considering some custom earplugs/headphones to manage it all. I have to see what my options are. I may just mount the HARD on the trailing edge of the windscreen, but I am not sure if that is the most visible, or I may just go with some type of bluetooth audio alert. I will post a ride review after I get a chance to try it out.![]()

How is the fit round or narrow?
I have a very oval head and I'm looking for a modular helmet and I was reading that the HJC are pretty oval/long. The full face helmet that fits me better is the Shark RSi, one of the most oval shape helmets.

I am going to guess it is on the narrow side of the midpoint. The reason the XL didn't feel right was that it wasn't tight to my face and kind of loose around the ears. If you fit in a Large HJC, this should fit as well.

I have an oval head also.........always used Arai helmets and the latest model was a Profile. The Shoei Neotec fits me great and is a nice helmet. No complaints so far!! I bought mine from helmet country with an ADVRider group buy. Cheers

I'm curious about the venting on the HJC. My Shoei rf1100 is air conditioned nicely. But like the idea of a flip up.

Most HJC's tend to be very round. I've tried several, and my oval head definitely does not like them, putting a pressure point right on my forehead. Bell, AGV, Skorpion, Arai all are mid- to long oval and fit me perfectly. I have three Bell helmets, mostly using an RS-1, which I love -- very comfortable and the RS-1 in particular is very light and fairly quiet, with great ventilation.

sheddr, I fit a M HJC, and found this helmet on sale lower than you paid. Should I get a M R, as well?
