O2 Sensors
I used to mess around with E30 and E36 BMWs. Long ago the illuminati discovered that you could use the O2 sensor from a Ford straight 6 (IIRC) on the BMW engines. It was an easy way to save a hundred bucks or so. Any trick like that on my R11S?
TIA |
if you don't care about soldering ends, a generic replacement form napa is like $46.00 if memory serves..
|
the generics went in my e34 530 3.0V8

Some have used the Bosch O2 Sensor (P/N: 13474) purchased at AutoZone in their R1100S.
Beemer Boneyard sells them, also. |
Well, my 1994 530I is an E34.
It has a 3.0l dohc v8, I thought they were somewhat common. I got a good'un, no nikasil issues, H&R lowering kit, bilsteins, 18" momos, earbleed stereo courtesy of daughter's hubby. Conforti chip, airbox mod, yadda-yadda. Fast enough to emulate the late FNF kid if you get it seriously wrong. |
I thought the 530's were all sixes and the 540's were the V8's?
"My bad" as they say. Thanks. |
Did some more searching and found this thread...

I used the Moybin sensor in my S and it is still working.

. We're sorry. We couldn't find any results for the 1999 BMW R1100S in this category. › See all products that do fit the 1999 BMW R1100S. . Amazon.com: Bosch 15109 Oxygen Sensor, OE Type Fitment: Automotive . |
I think the fact that this particular sensor fits the R1100s is just a coincidence. It uses a connector used by BMW on their cars.

not to be a $h!t, but the amazon item is not showing the correct part # you could go here or here EnDuraLast - BMW R & K Oxygen Sensor my take on the various different part numbers has to do with the connectors and other stuff, the guts of the sensor for general use ( narrow band) i take to be the same, so why not use one that matches the connect and approx length and save the hassle of trying to make the splice joint.... |
Agreed...why not? Good Point!

an 02 sensor is a 'wear item' much as an oil or air filter, just with a longer service life. I believe a standard intreval is 60K miles.
Sure, they go longer than that but part of a modern troubleshooting SOP should include a replacement decision. my 530 car threw an '02 sensor' failure trouble code, I replaced both (factory stainless tube headers and dual exhausts) and that cured the issue I had..just my $.02 |
