Broken Locking Tab On System Case
Folks,
I did a stupid thing yesterday and bend one of the red locking tabs on my system cases. Needless to say it snapped off when I tried to straighten it out (that was expected). The question is can I replace the locking tab mechanism without re-keying both bags? I haven't tried to take it apart yet, but I see that Bob's BMW is advertising a "lock set" for about 25 bucks. Thanks, Lou |

I did a similar thing last year but managed to bend it back without snapping. My dealer said it was quite a common occurrence and that BMW did a repair kit that would be matched to your key profile. Cost was about £16. Neil |
Within 5 minutes of having my new (used) system cases home, I broke one of my tabs off, D'oh! Crap.
Lou, if you are still around (I'm extending an old post here), were you able to fix/replace this? Has anyone else got any ideas. I presume that you can get at the locking mechanism by drilling out the rivets that hold the plastic panel in the inside of the case? I was so excited about my cases, now I'm amazed at what a moron I am  |
I bent a tab once also but was able to straighten it.
You won't have to re-key both bags. When you get a new lock take it, the bag, and your ignition key to a dealer and they will put in new tumblers to match your old locks. I was talking to my dealer about this on Friday; he said it takes five minutes, but he was willing to charge a lot of money for it if it made the whole process seem German and sophisticated... :) |
