Riding in the NE

Check it out! I recently moved from NC to Highland Lakes, NJ and now I'm on the lookout for new destinations and roads to explore. Maybe I'll even be able to make a Weak Sauce Tour.

Welcome to jersey! The food is great but the riding sucks. You'll need to ride NEPA ans NYS to find anything worth the effort.

Sure we have pretty roads throughout Morris and Sussex counties but not many twisties.

Are you on the park side of town?

Thanks for Jersey welcome. From what I've seen of the roads in Sussex Co. they look pretty good and the faster you go, the more interesting they become. I'm living near the well named, Breakneck Rd.

Not sure what you mean by the 'park side of town'. I'm 2 miles from the AT and surrounded by Wawwayanda State Forest.

Well if you're surrounded by "way way yonder" then you're definitely on the park side.

Just keep in mind that speeding bikers keep jersey municipal budgets well sourced.

Check in with PFFOG, he has a bunch of NEPA roads mapped out and Shrdder has some nice NYS reservoir runs.

In the words of Horace Greeley, Go West young Man. The only thing close in the NE, to NC is PA. Even then it will take 20-30 miles to get as many corners as a run from Cruso to the BRP.

Here is what I run, when I come to play.

https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=216095386428690908839.000469bc6a649801c8d0 6&msa=0&ll=40.691052,-76.863098&spn=0.903828,1.783905

Martincito bought a camp somewhere in NE PA and talked about a WS weekend, but I haven't seen anything solid.

Going West, isn't an option for me right now, so thanks for the other advice on where to ride. From looking at some maps, some of the PA roads do look pretty good.

I meant west to PA.

The closest to you is the Shamokin loop, not a bad run, some technical stuff and mostly rural.

Not fer nuthin'...but NJ and PA are Mid-Atlantic states.
People who actually live in the Northeast don't consider them as being Northeastern.
Upstate New York, and all of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine are full of roads that rival NC...and I mean no dis-respect to NC. Mass and Conn aren't slouches when it comes to the twisties either.

Has to be, I can ride more good roads in a day in NC, than a week in the NE/Mid Atlantic.

I thinks we need to invite the noobee down and show him how to properly wear out a set of tires in a week.

If all you got is the t-shirt, you didn't even get close to the good stuff. By a weeks end tires are shagged edge to edge, probably into the wear bars a good bit too.

I'm a PA transplant from northern NJ. PFFOG your knowledge of twisty PA roads is impressive, you even found Goldmine Rd. GotRoad, 519 from around route 23 all the way down to 46 is pretty nice and not much traffic. Make sure to stop at Space Farms and take a look at the motorcycle collection. 650 is also a nice road with little traffic. I don't remember all the road numbers, but if you look at a map and pick out the twisty roads in sussex, NJ and Orange County NY, you will be very pleased. Head up towards high point on route 23, cross over Dingman Ferry private bridge (there's a toll) and there are some nice roads there. You can also run all the way down south along the Delaware River on the NJ or PA side (PA side is nicer) to New Hope as well.

Looping around Greenwood Lake is nice. Its in both NJ and NY....extreme northern NJ. I use to live in West Milford (1st house), but grew up in Basking Ridge. No worries, where you live in NJ, there are some very nice roads. You will find them. Just keep track of them on a Zumo!

I am a map geek. The NC guys look forward to me showing up every spring to show them new roads under their nose.

Now Dee moved to the Affluent Hillbilly neighborhood, he has found some guys to show him more stuff. Going to be hard to keep surprising them.

You might live in an affluent hillbilly neighborhood...............if you have to stop for the aggressive rooster and/or aggressive domestic turkey crossing that PA-tucky twisty farm backroad you are on.

There are 2 farms here where I have to do that and have affectionately named the birds "Turkeytude" and "Roostertude". One time the rooster squared off with me and then lost interest luckily. Typically he's resting under the landowners pickup truck with his hens.

I DID NOT have to worry about that in NJ.

Hey PFFOG, when you run 125 in PA just outside of Shamokin traveling south, be careful of traffic going in and out of the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area (AOAA) which is a newly opened offroad park off of 125. Slow moving trailers and people not paying attention.
