Flap on Gas Cap

I just moved back to Colorado from New Jersey. I shipped my car and shipped everything else using Pack Rat.

I rode my R1100s there. I enjoyed the 1800 miles and was hoping it would be relaxing before I had to start work. The weather for the last 2/3 of the trip was very rainy. This has been the year for that. It snowed the night I got to my apartment.

I was lucky I got in before the snow.

Being the dope I can sometimes be, I forgot to put the flap down on my gas cap when I got gas in the rain on 1 fill up. I put my tank bag back on and rode to fill up a few hours later. When I got gas the next time, I saw I had broken the flap off.

Does anyone know how I can replace the flap without buying a new gas cap?

If I have to get a new cap assy. - so be it.

Thanks for any advice.

new cap

i broke the cap not just the key cover. the key cover is part of the cap. you would have to replace the cap. but you remove your current key cylinder from the old and swap into the new cap. been there, dun it.

Gas Cap Cover

When I looked on Max's website and saw only the gas cap assy was offered, I knew I would have to get a new one over the Winter.

I was just hoping someone knew of a different way.

Next time I'll try not to be such a putz, and put the cover down before I put my tank bag on the tank.

Thanks for your time.

If you are in Colorado, are you near Fort Collins. If so go to Beemers & More. They may be able to help you out. tjs

Beemers and More

I didn't even think of that.

I actually bought this bike from them. I was living in New Jersey and saw he had it for sale. I bought it, flew to Denver - took a shuttle to Ft. Collins and rode it back to New Jersey.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll do just that.

Beemer Boneyard

I saw this on Beemer Boneyard's website as well.

I am trying to get in touch with Mike at Beemer Boneyard. I want to see what it looks like when the cover is down.

If it's all scratched I would rather just get a new Cap assy.

I can't remember what I paid for mine as I broke it years ago but it wasn't big bucks and besides a little bit of financial pain ensures you don't do it again and I never have you check!!!! before dropping the tank.

A used one does not have to be off an R11S. All R1100 models use the same one. part # ending in 458. tjs

i dont want to open new thread so i ask here, where to buy metal tank cap for r12s?

because my friend work "home made" passenger holder, and i know that r12s have plastic tank cap so its very big chance to brake

Roby - can you ask a different way?

The fuel tank cap assembly has a plastic lower part that attaches to the fuel tank, but the locking fuel cap is metal.
