I'm not looking for the best motorbike, necessarily. I try and steer away from words like 'best' for anything in life - it's too subjective. I was very happy with my R1100S, it did everything well, felt safe and looked good. I always coveted the R1200S and that brought me back to this forum but you only need to look at many members signature line to see that many members here just love motorbikes...... The other thing of course, is that since the R1100S ended production, a whole new type of bike has appeared under the general heading of adventure bike even though they are really road bikes that can handle a bit of off road. These bikes generally get rave reviews..... So I'm open to other possibilities besides a R1200S, that's all. I can't afford nor have the room for more than one bike, so I'm considering my options...... |

Welcome back Marcus. I've not ridden very many different bikes for a long time since buying my 1150GS Adventure back in 2003. The exceptions would be my brothers Buell, an 1100 Motoguzzi and an MV Agusta 750 Brutale. I guess I tend to buy the bikes that work for me at the time and in the case of the GS, never having a reason to trade up or sideways or otherwise change.
Concurrently I had an R1100S which made way for an R1200S. The 1100 was comfortable but disappointing in regards to power. As you've heard, it was a model given to carrying the occasional pillion and luggage but that was not it's purpose for me. The 1200 was much better in regards to power and weight but not as comfortable, and that model was not nearly as adept at carrying passengers or luggage as the 1100. Interesting comment you made about the Duc being a viable alternative. I rode a sports model way back before buying the GS and it showed it's potential as a canyon carver but I couldn't see myself doing that justice in any other situation. I've sent a PM

This is good spectator sport watching someone struggle with the same synario that we all have at some I have never found the solution to your problem and hence why I run four bikes depending on when and where I/we are riding.
My number one bike by some margin is my SuperMoto'd 955 Tiger I must have some kind of crystal ball because I built it 13 years ago and my/our priority is to find a replacement well not as a replacement as well as the Tiger is way to good to sell because that's what we go on holiday on. In recent times I've ridden a Ohlins Multistrada and also the Skyhook version and sat on the latest 2015 offering that looks similar but it is different and also the BM XR and ridden the 1050 Tiger Sport having ignored the GS I've got one Boxer I certainly don't wont two ![]() I'd go and ride a 1200 multi out of preference look for a bog stocker without all the crap on and more too the point will give you some idea of what you want/need/afford. Ironically with 3 big bikes in the garage I spend most of my time in the UK riding an XT660 SuperMoto it'll cruise at 90 and on anything but a straight road more than holds it's own or be it with a few mods to help things along. What I forgot to say!! how much is an MT09 in Australia because that bike is really going upset the apple cart. Last edited by Chris Canning; 12-29-2014 at 02:31 PM.. |

![]() And that's why I haven't gone and asked this question on say a Ducati forum because if you own a bike you tend to be biased and defensive. One of the great things on this R1100S/R1200S forum is that even though there is a love of (even cult status as ckcarr says ) the boxer S bikes, members here are also very honest about the bikes limitations.Quote:
