Do Shorai batteries freeze?

Its sub zero in my garage and I thought I better put the Shorai on the Battery Tender. It's been charging for 24 hours and is still not blinking green. Have I ruined the battery by letting it get so cold?

Hi Shreddr :

From Shorai's web site, under FAQ : What is the best way to facilitate long term storage -

Cool storage is good for any type of battery. You may remove the battery from vehicle for summer storage and place in a cool, dry location – with terminals taped to avoid short circuit (ideal is about 34F/1C, so a refrigerator is great). Avoid storage at temperatures below 0F/-18C or above 90F/32C whenever possible. Any charging during storage should be performed at temperatures above freezing, for best results.

I hope your garage is above 0 degrees .

Mine was heavily discharged (long story as to why) and it took about 48 hours on the Shorai charger before it was fully charged. It has worked fine since then.

sub zero is a term that should be reserved as a name for a refrigerator company, and not used to describe a garage.

git yerself one of these: Triple Tank Top Heater

I was expecting something more like this from you Brad.

But I was really interested to see what triple meant.

shredd~might just be time to take it out into the woods and shoot it.
or bring it in the house, let it warm up and sneak up on it one final time.

then, if no joy, see afore-mentioned trees/firearm scenario.

Sounds like the answer is yes they freeze. Do they make heat blankets for batteries? Sucks that they cost twice what a good AGM sells for & can't handle a little cold.

put the key in and turned it

nothing

I guess it is dead, kind of a bummer to pay twice as much for something that lasts half as long. I went back through my threads and I bought it in August of 2012 so I got 32 months out of it, maybe that's good. It's a great place to save weight, but I will admit there were times when it was new and it seemed reluctant to turn the engine over, which used to give me a little anxiety on long rides when i was gassing up. I don't think I will get another one, back to a nice Odyssey!

New Battery for HP2 and R11S ordered (very light in weight)

You, and other users were primarily paying a premium for a few grams of weight savings, not rock solid or better reliability. Still, three years isn't bad.
I'm an Odyssey person, the Odyssey I had put in my R1100S in 2006 is still working. Would I trust it - even a few miles from home? Heck NO! I need to replace it this year...

Perhaps he keeps his motorcycle in a cold storage locker at -10 f. down there in Phoenix. Just to empathize with others?
