2002 R1100S Center Stand Help
Hey guys,
New to the forum, so thanks for having me. I just bought a 2002 R1100S and it didnt come with the center stand. I like to work on my own bike (oil changes, tire changes, ect) and am in need of a stand. I guess my first question would be if anyone has one for sale? My second question has to do with fitment, I have been looking for a used one on ebay, but they are hard to come by. Does anyone know if a centre stand from another BMW model would work on the R1100s? If so, does anyone know which year and model? Any help you can provide me would be great! Please PM me if you have a stand for sale Thanks again Last edited by noskills; 04-05-2015 at 08:07 PM.. |

Do you know what you bought?
Chances are it was a Boxer Cup Prep which didn't come with a center stand because the suspension sets the bike a little higher. Post a picture of the bike.

Better to get a trackside stand like the Baxley sport chock. You dont need that extra weight on your bike day in day out....

I have welded pads on the bottom of mine to bring the tyre off the floor. Don't worry about the 'extra weight', you won't notice it. |

when you install it don't forget the bolts that thread into the frame that it rests on.
put them in with locktite. also grease the pivot pins they commonly cause damage to the frame |

Hey buddy
Thanks very much for the reply. I think it's just a standard R1100s, I don't have any special badging or the other known differences between the standard and prep version. I think someone removed the centre stand and never put it back. !! Quote:

we don't need no stinking badges,
it will depend on what any po has done to rase the rear there are several options, mine really doesnt lift the rear now that I have the shorter parallever arm. I don't think it would fall off easily but if you want to remove the tire you will need to use a block of wood if you get desperate I might have one |

I used car jacks under rear foot pegs for my BCR then friend made stand to fit rear pegslots. These front stands are cheap and useful also.

Hey, I actually dont have pictures of the bike right now, its stored at my other place and believe it or not I never took pictures of it. I will try and get out there this week and post. I know the BCR versions had a bigger rim, is the size of the rim marked on it?
The bike is yellow and has heated grips, it also does not have the carbon fibre covers on the cylinder heads. Not sure if that means its not a BCR, but I will get pics to try and confirm. Thanks again, |

Per the 2002 BMW model brochure, the 2002 R1100S came in five colors. Marrakesh Red, Phoenix Gray, Mandarin/Titanium Silver, Frost Blue, and Black/Yellow R1100SA Special Edition.
The Black/Yellow Special Edition (without center stand) is below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiIkHZJ8BV4

Thanks for the video, upon searching i found an image of my bike online, I have attached it below. I could have sworn I had a 2002, but from the picture I found it says its a 2002. The only thing I can think of is that the bike is Canadian, and maybe the colour schemes in Canada were different? Please see the picture below and let me know if thats a BCR? Thanks for all the help guys.

That's my bike.
It's called mandarin/titanium silver. It has the factory "sport suspension", thus no center stand.. (Look at the yellow shock) Also appears to be missing a seat cowl. Different countries classify bike years differently on the title. And, I also think different color schemes sometimes are released in different countries in different times.

if you have a 5.5 rim 180 if you have a 5.0 rim a 170,
the size is cast on one of the spokes |

On the steering head frame member right side...there's a label which has tire size... front and rear for that machine. I just saw it today when I had the fairing off. I was wondering the same thing. Weather it was really a 5 or 5.5 inch rim. Mine's a 2004 ABS. I have replaced tires by reading the wall markings. Difficult to see with the fairing on, but may be possible. Though I live in Canada, it's a US build bike.

Thanks for the info, I took Brent's advice and checked the rear rim, sure enough the rim size was stamped on the right side of the wheel, on the spoke. The rim on my bike is indeed a 5.5! I'm glad I figured this out, now back to trying to figure out how to remove the back wheel so I can get the tire changed, LOL. Back to the drawing board! Thanks to everyone for the help! |

you really need to check the rim lots of these were upgraded by the owners like mine,
which I upgraded. the 180 size is nice the tire availability is better. |
