Rick Mayer Cycle (Seats) Business Practices Investigation

I recently rec'd some documents and a lengthy questionnaire from the District Attorney (County of Tehama) in CA. I filled out the forms and sent them in.
I would guess that I'm not the only one who has had some difficulty with RM over the years.
.
Back in 2012, I sent (UPS) him the seat off my '99 R1100S to be modified. He stated that it would be a week or so before he could start it and finish it and that he would not begin until I sent him the total of $354. Within two days of his receipt of my seat, I had an offer to sell the bike (never did) so I emailed RM about that, that I'd not be sending him money, and for him to not proceed. I told him that I'd pay him to UPS the seat back to me.
.
However, in spite of his telling me that he'd not begin the modification until I sent him the total, he claimed that he had already ripped off the cover and the cover as well as the foam was destroyed. Long story short, a few emails back/forth as well as a couple of nasty phone calls (his profanity), I decided to file a BBB grievance on his business.
Nothing came of that because he convinced the BBB that I was in the wrong. I decided to move on.
I bought a used seat.
.
As stated in the documents that I rec'd from the DA, they fetched my info from the BBB.
.
Anyway, there you go...proceed with caution.

it appears that the BBB grew tired of the complaints, as well.

That's the good news.
The bad news is that now I have to figure out how to remove the entire ass end of this rig... ... inspect...(hopefully not bad news) ...and install new disc/spacer. Hopefully, with only 8k miles, she's not in too bad of shape.
Best regards,

Years back, I remember I called him up for a custom seat...he came across as a giant d i c k! I was so bitter-mouthed that I still ride the stock seat!

Bill is Rick's brother.
I called Bill when I had trouble w/Rick.
He spent quite some time on the phone w/me.
The upshot was that he went out of his way to apologize for Ricks'...shall we say, psychological atmosphere.
He offered to mod a seat for me at a sizable discount.
Bill's business acumen is the antithesis of Rick's.

Guess I'm one of the fortunate few who had a good experience with Mayer. Seat he made for me on a ride in appointment is perfect. All the bad things that have happened to other riders has made me regret giving him permission to use a photo of my bike on his website. My bad. Damn.

In 2007 I had a seat done by him. It was so good.

Now the seat was done by Sargeant and they did a better job.

On my 11S, I traded he sargent for a corbin and was VERY happy... on my first GS I traded a sargent for a corbin and was very happy (the only real drawback at my age, being the weight) and just recently, I tried a new sargent again (I get them a good prices) and just traded it for a Bill Mayer seat... what an excellent piece of craftman-ship!!!

Sargent seats just don't seem to work for me.
