I am throwing this out there in the hopes that I can give my Bro-in-law some advice about a Beemer he is interesting in buying.
The picture below is not of the bike for sale, but is similar. I've asked Bro to try and get photos of the actual bike. ![]() What follows is what Bro has written about it. Comments please? Cheers! I've been after a local guy for years about selling me his old BMW. He finally called me today and asked if I still want it. I said yes...of course! He bought it brand new in 1978. I guess that was the first year for this R100/7. It has the rather large front fairing with storage, two detachable saddle bags, the large upper bag, and even a tank bag. It has new tires, but they've been sitting for many years now. It's red, has 48,000 highway miles on it. He's trying to figure out how much to ask for it. He said it ran great, and didn't burn any oil. I see them anywhere from $3000 to $10,000 depending on condition. What do you think would be fair? Heard of anything to watch out for on this model?

They are great bikes but with the big fairings, go for about $2,000 - $3,500.
Check the website Boxerworks.com for good advice after purchase if wanting to lavish some attention on the bike or if it has problems. Chuey |

Thanks Mate! I'll pass it on.
Does anyone else have something helpful to add?

Expect to drop another 5-600 to get it road worthy. I went the extra mile by going toaster tan top triple, after market shocks H-D fork springs, replaced all brake pads, tires and cables and went through everything but clutch and splines. Do the wheel bearings and steering head bearings for sure. Love the bike! It feels lighter than it is, it's great around town but I'll stick to the 11S or GS for the open road. And for God's sake make sure he pulls off the fairing. Last edited by wiggledbits; 05-11-2015 at 05:06 AM.. |

Good stuff WB! I don't think it is an S though. Bro can't get a photo of the actual bike because it is tucked away in a dark corner of a shed. It is not that bronzey colour but Red.
Yeah, that fairing...sheesh. Craig Vetter has a lot to answer for (or maybe Vetters' German cousin). Anyone else?
