to O2 sensor or not?
I just ordered a Staintune for my R1150R (thanks Brad for the Moto-one site info) should I unplug my O2 sensor and pull the ccp or not? Thanks Jeff

there'll be an fim chip soon
hahahahahahahahahaha he says, remembering what happened last time he said that. i have bought one, and it will go to duane soon. apart from that, no idea. i like to leave o2 sensors attached, but it's really up to you. maybe we could do a non o2 sensor chip as well. i'm not sure how the ecu reacts, or how long it takes to settle on a reaction. we would need to work that out before we did a chip, in case it changed gradually. brad |
My question would be: What possible gain could effected by running open loop?
If you're looking to richen up the injection, there are ways to achieve that, while still signalling the ecu to "try" to give good mileage during steady state throttle positions. jeff |
simply that it won't surge. not sure if it's the bikes or the owners, but the r and rt in particular seem to be the worst.
what it does to other things is the unknown. if you did a open loop specific chip, you could then change the mixture in the cruise area as required. it would probably use a bit more fuel, but run nicer for it. the difference between the open loop and closed loop chip would only be the low throttle range we don't normally touch due to the closed loop operation. above that, they would be the same theoretically - apart from any other change caused by the ecu reaction to the o2 sensor being disconnected. brad |
...well, I'd sure like to find out if it's bikes that are surging, or wrists that are surging. Never felt one yet, just keep hearing about 'em –*kinda like ghosts, mebbe.
Still, like to get bunch together and do some deterministic stuff to just see what this ( mass hysteria? ) phenomenon is all about. jeff |

I've owned two boxers, and one surged and the other didn't. If it was just the rider both of my bikes would have surged. |
I am on my third and never experianced it. One of these days when somebody cries about it I am going to have to ask for a ride?

Hi Dave,
Take a larger sample (especially on older M2.2 units) and you'll run into it. Non existant on some, subtle on others, very annoying on others still. The last R1150RT (despite M2.4) I rode was horrible. An R1150R the same day was great. The seem all over the map. I think you've been a lucky man. :) roger |
