Turn Indicator Bracket?
 

Hey all,

Was up at Euroa in Northern Vic today - pulled in for gas a bunch of Harley riders were checking out my R1100S - one of them noticed the rear LH turn indicator dangling on its wire (broken bracket!) - he rushed off to his saddle bags and grabbed some insulating tape & said "that'll get yer home".. top bloke!

Anywayz I need a new bracket and got the part numbers etc..

Can anyone recommend an on line place I could get one of these? Tried Max BMWs on line shop but the postage is USD70!!!:eek:

Searched the forum and it seems common and can't get just this part down here - glue is looking good!

Looks like BMW here sell them for AUD20 ea so I'll get a couple of replacements - flimsy things..:confused:

Apparently they are the same either side so may be worth getting some 3D printed at work..!

Did the turn indicator holder (part #6) break ?

In a tip over it's the nylon nut (plug-in nut , part #7) that strips and is sacrificed before part #6 snaps.

Yeah #6 was glued when I bought the bike - I've glued it once but in the heat it fell apart again...must have been kicked or brushed past at some time...

I bumped an indicator many years ago and broke the same bit. I was able to buy a suitable nut and bolt about 50mm long, drill a longitudinal hole in the broken bits and bolt the indicator back on.
It cost about 50 cents for the bolt, and it's lasted at least 10 years so far.

My kid bumped the rear signal when the bike was brand new and it snapped right off.
Not happy.
But here's one solution.
Take the $$$ you'd spend on a BMW signal and go get a pair of Harly Davison (sp?) signals.
They are inexpensive and super sturdy, even come with s smoke lens if you want, and are almost an exact fit. A little enlarging of the BMWs steel signal bracket and it slips right in.
No more busted signals. Done.

Lots of options for HD that are better than the diposable BMW part on Ebay here...

Nice fella gave me a numberplate surround too (yes, gave - yes this is BMW, I was amazed- a 3 yo dealer local to here)

Thanks to this forum - fitted the new bracket and all good until the next bump / whack...seems the tab was missing as well as the bracket broken in half so no amount of glue would hold it...back to riding without a dangly indicator .. prolly look into LEDs if they go again...

And good suggestion for the Harley signals, Rapid Dog. I took a similar route by repairing a pair of front signals from a crashed Yamaha R1. Here's the R1 signal attached to the bike vs. the stock part.

After some filler and sanding, I really like the attractive shape of the housing - especially after painting them frost blue to match the bike.

And since the front R1 signals contain dual filament bulbs, I have running lights (shown below) and much brighter turnsignals. :)
