Though I do admit I don't think I'd want to ride it 800 miles in a day. :D

Howdy, Boys! I just checked in and found this thread. It is nice to see so many of the "originals" back together in one place. My posting frequency dropped off during my divorce in 2007-8, when I lost contact with my 'S. I reacquired her in 2010 and moved her to Nebraska, from Texas, in 2013. She now shares a stable with six siblings.

Today, I took the old 'S on an old school spirited 200 mile blast around the Loess Hills in Iowa. I felt some guilt wringing the old girl's neck, but couldn't let the youngster in the lead pull too far away. You understand.

Old school ride and familiar names on the site. Today has been a delightful blast from the past.

I just noticed that mine is one of the earliest "Join Dates" on this thread. Huh.

Here is a little history. I joined this forum while shopping for my first new bike. I decided on a sport-tourer (before they became humongous monstrosities and sprouted beaks) because I could only afford one bike and needed that one to do it all. I settled on the 'S and brought the old girl home in January 2000.

I'll check in more often.

Just checking and I bought my 2000 on January 15, 2000. Seems like yesterday... It was special! Ha-ha! It was all cordoned off with a sign "Don't Touch!" That's how to sell motorcycles... Tell me not to touch it!

There's sure been a lot of names pass through on this board...

I don't remember exactly when I bought my first R1100S but it was a new '99 I got from Global Motors in Atlanta. They were a BMW car/bike dealer and they later sold their BMW motorcycle license to BMW Atlanta. Anyway, I remember first seeing one when I bought my '98 R1100RT and was blown away. The underseat exhausts were so "Ducati". Having been away from riding for awhile I thought it was too much. But that changed pretty quick.

I'd pretty much wouldn't want to to ride any bike 800 miles in a day. That would mean highly boring riding and I don't ride to be bored.

Lol.

although CK makes a very solid point, re-reading this thread isn't gonna do it.

unfortunately, you probably had to be there.
