most photobucket-hosted images are dead.
i'd been seeing a lot of "upgrade your service" placeholders in the last few days and it turns out it's because photobucket was going for the long con. unless you pay them $400 a year your images will no longer show up on any other site. any how-to posts, show-off-the-bike posts, etc. originally posted using photobucket-hosted pix are now useless.
![]() at least pelican hosts its own images. bmwsporttouring, among others, looks like it's gonna be "gently caressed" by the change. change your links if you used photobucket? pretty please?

Yes, what a money-grabbing scam. I've seen the repeated "Upgrade Your Account" messages in the past month or so.
Been a paid-up member of PhotoBucket for a few years, avoiding all the ads, so thank goodness all my images on their platform are copies of what's on the 2TB hard drive here. ¿ So which other platform should we switch to ? SmugMug, whatever ? Trouble is of course that in the meantime any posted images in earlier threads will show that irritating 'upgrade-please' message with no foto. What a shameless con. AL in s.e. Spain

My worry is that many users won't bother with the tedium of changing all their links. So many good threads, now gone.
Can't blame a business for trying to have a sustainable business plan, but feck if money isn't damned expensive.

Does anyone know if there is a time limit on editing a post in an old thread? I was going to try to update some failed Photobucket pictures with new ones in some classic older threads, so they aren't just worthless information now. I don't see any edit option anymore when I open these threads. It's been a while since I have been here, so I may be missing something. I'm definitely deleting my Photobucket account as well.

I just checked my first post here and can't edit it.
Looks like part of the vBulletin settings: https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum/vbulletin-5-connect/vbulletin-5-connect-questions-problems-troubleshooting/vbulletin-5-support-issues-questions/4339794-post-edit-delete-window Dunno whether this can be changed at the forum admin level or whether the Pelican bigwigs would need to get in on it. IMO a major image host dying is certainly an exceptional situation.

I agree. The old saying is "You get what you pay for."
