O2 sensor plug
Does anyone know of a source for oxygen sensor plugs that plug the hole where the sensor in now when it is removed? The thread is M18 x 1.5.

Just use an old sparkplug, break off the ceramic and a little anti-seize.
jeff course I wouldn't, I'd use the proper plug...

I like that....... I'll richen the bike up by moving the TPS and then connect the O2 spark plug to high beam HID ballast(23KV) so when I hit the passing beam I'll shoot flames out the back or blow up ![]() ![]()

..and as soon as you do the SJ Dual Spark upgrade, you'll be the only one with a 5 spark plug bike!
Yikes! jeff lets talk about just *what* kind of plugs are best, shall we...?

I just got my coil and my heads should be done next week. But where to find a 5 plug coil... If I knew you were going to be such a big help I would have asked sooner! I have looked for a bolt but M18 x 1.5 thread is not a common size and I have had no luck so far. Eron |

Hi Eron,
18x1.5 is an ULTRA common BMW part. Look at any airhead. Motor drain plug, transmission fill plug, rear drive fill plug. Part number 07 11 9 919 143 BMW Suggested Price $1.33 Free at most junk yards if you climb over any old beemer or VW/Audi/Porsche. Or a rusty one free from me with a SASE. hth later roger

Well, I don't know why Eron is doing it, but possibilities include
1 running a chip that doesn't pay attention to the sensor 2 running a chip that does, but that runs desireably richer w/o sensor 3 really a subset of number 2: running stock chip w/o sensor (will be richer) 4 Effectively removing the senor modulation from the system so you can better see the effects of other paramaters. Great when developing a new map. SOP even. 5 Weight savings. Yes, #5 was meant to be unhelpful to keep jclark happy. Strangely, it was a very timely question. I've had a half dozen of those plugs in my shop for years. Just this month I started computerizing my inventory and adding descriptors so I could x-ref parts for use other than standard. I think I typed in the 18x1.5 just this last Monday evening. Before that, I wouldn't have known that the answer was sitting right in front of my face. In fact, now that I think about it, what size is the fill plug on the S??? I have a suspicion... roger

tangent to original question
the techlusion kit (fuel nanny) is being shipped with a new cable to interface the ECU directly and supposed to pay extra attention to the o2 sensor. so says the fellows at battley's in gaithersburg, md. they have been pushing that at their shop even for people with chips. wonder what everyone's take on that concept? (not the fuel nanny itself, i already understand that, but the concurrent operation of the box and a chip, etc., etc.)

My take is it could be useful in some cases, and is just a revenue opportunity in others. If a chip already exists with one's specific config, then the fuel nanny would do little (remember, going from a stock chip to a performance one is only worth a few horse, so a slight additional tweak is going to offer only a very diminishing/incremental return)
Otoh, if your config is much different than any chip is available for, then just go with the nanny. Sure, it won't be a perfect fit, but a wrong chip and a nanny won't either, so why buy both. Otoh, it would be a fun toy to play with. Btw, I'm not sure what paying 'extra attention' to the O2 sensor means. Looking at it under operating conditions that the stock unit doesn't ? WOT for instance? And how does the nanny know? Via the new special cable. And even then, it won't adjust the ignition like some chips do. Again, fun to play with, but hard to imagine a choice where it would offer much when used _ini_addition_to_ a vaguely properly configured chip. Just a fun toy. Not that there's anything wrong with that. roger

So many questions! I am removing the O2 sensor because the bike runs better with it disconnected now that I have a decent map for the power commander. The fuel is changed 10-12% at some points from the stock map. Also it will make the bike 3.2 ounces lighter. The bike is currently apart getting the heads dual plugged (honest) so I decided to clean up some other stuff like the O2 wiring while it is apart.
The R1100S drain plug is M16 x 1.5. Roger thanks for the info. on the early drain plug. Eron |

Hi
Glad to be of service. I just looked at my S and have 99% (not 100, I didn't pull it) confirmed my suspicion. The tranny _FILL_ plug looks like a standard BMW 18x1.5 Eron, looks like you have a test plug about a foot from where it needs to be. Pls let us know if that works. The old 16x1.5 shows up one or two places on old airheads too, though not as commonly. Fill plug on some heads. and maybe as drains on some later airheads. I have a couple of those sitting on the bench too. They're used to block off the airports when the old airhead emissions plumbing is removed from the heads. I've come up with a set of dual-plugged heads for the cafe/6 that are from a later bike so I'll be needing those plugs there. Please keep us posted on how the mapping is coming. Coolest topic around. Later Roger

Confirmed, your O2 sensor is the same size as your trans oil _Fill_ plug 18x1.5 (even the same part number as an airhead all the way back to '69) Nothing new under the sun.
