Headlight Switch
I know this is pretty obscure, but maybe someone can help me on this. If I turn the headlights off (push in the headlight knob), it does not always turn on off the in dash light and parking lights. Sometimes it does. I've noticed that if I am at a complete stop with parking brake engaged, it functions normally. It has always done this. The owners manual doesn't mention anything about this "feature". Is the switch defective? Or is there some greater power at work here?

It is quite possible that the rheostat may have gone bad, then again, you may need to simply clean the contacts. Try removing it and cleaning it. See what happens.

For futur refernece, you may want to get a hold of some radio/television cleaner. You can get this stuff at Radio Shack, Fry's etc.. It essentially is a non-conductive spray used for cleaning off electronic components. Good stuff to have in a pinch.
