Flakey Fuel Gauge

I hate to be a pest, but I keep getting really good info from this forum. When my 1996 Z3 had about 15k miles the fuel gauge failed and was replaced. A couple days ago, just after refueling the guage showed completely empty, yet the trip computer showed about 370 miles to empty. I shut the engine off, restarted (Reboot ??) and it seemed to work properly. Then on the way to work this AM, the guage crept up from about 3/4 tank to completely full. Now if the Gas Ferry was filling my tank I wouldn't complain, since premium is about $2 a gallon here, but I suspect the gauge my be faulty. Given the recent problem with my headlight switch, could it be a bad wiring harnes? All suggestions are welcome.

I would suspect a ground problem first. Have you checked the connections?

This is a common thing for the Z. Most folks live with it. If you fill the car super full it will read empty until the level drops a bit and then will read normal. My M Roadster does this. The fix is in the sender unit I believe.

I am having a similar problem. When the tank is filled, the red warning light will come on for an instant, then it will read full. Is this a problem with the tank sender?
