Wanting to upgrade stock Radio. What does it take?

I have a 2000 Boxster with I guess a stock CDR-220 and a AMP/CD changer in front trunk.

I am shopping around for an upgrade and I have a few questions. I want to have all the new features, (Bluetooth, USB, Ability to play both Iphone car app and Android Auto, NAV from the phone app like Google Maps, DVD/CD.

1: Will the car have issues if the CDR-220 is removed. I have read several post that say it has to stay in the car. Is this true?
2: I am looking at both the single DIN with a flip out 7 " screen and the double DIN 7 " screen. What will it take to install the double DIN? (Harness, bezel, brackets, Moving location of HVAC controls)
3: Will the Single DIN 7 " fit/ work in this dash without a lot of modifying?
4: What model numbers do you suggest I look at for both styles? (Single DIN with flip out and Double DIN)

Thanks for any input
Rick

Hi Rick - check out the link below. Crutchfield has an excellent configurator where you plug in your make/model/year and the populated results are only those that will work for your specific model. It's quite helpful.

I put a double din in my 01, a Pioneer. Crutchfield sells a plastics kit that adapts the dash. Works a charm. They also sell an adaptive wiring harness.

If you buy an aftermarket unit, get something that will support bluetooth so you can use your phone hands free. The Pioneers have all the outputs if you want to install a remote CD player and/or an amp. Reasonably priced, work really well, and don't scream aftermarket.

I installed a Dynavin N7 and so far so good. Works well for me. I also added their back up camera. Here's a link to where I bought mine: https://www.jandtdistributing.com/collections/porsche-boxster-2006-2012

Here's a photo of it in my car.
