Installation of CV Boot Clamps...

We seem to get this question a lot, from customers who are sure that we have sent them the wrong CV boot clamp because it "doesn't fit" or is too loose. 100% of the time (so far), the clamp has been correct, but there has been some confusion regarding the proper installation procedure. These clamps are one-time-use only, and require that you use a tool (it can be some needle-nose pliers) to squeeze the "ear" on the clamp so that you tighten it around the boot.

My supplier snagged this picture off of the Internet:

In the future, I will send people to this thread so that they can understand how these work. I suppose I should have put a picture like this in my Boxster book - I'll probably add one to the upcoming 996 book.

Hi Wayne. I had the same problem ( but didn't bother to complain ).
The clamp will not fit on the external boot ( wheel side ). Ended up getting the other type ( the one you need to pull and fold ) from auto zone.
Since I decided to remove the whole axel and replace cv joint and boots, the axel was hanging from the wheel after disconnected from transmission.
During that process, the metal cup that covers the outer joint, bent a little bit.
I reshaped it when assembling the axel on the table. When I got to the clamps, I could not fit them. I assumed because the metal cup is bended it doesn't fit. I was missing maybe 2 mm to get the little tooth to the firs hole. I'm sure if the cup wasn't bended The clamp would fit.
I think if you can get a clamp that is couple mm larger, it will save a lot of headache for everyone.
