2008 Boxster S have IMS issues
Does it matter if the engine is the 3.4L flat-six, 303 hp engine?

The 2005 to 2008 Boxster and ‘06-‘08 Cayman have the IMS bearing as well. This version cannot be replaced without dissembling the engine. Do they have issues? Yes, but it also depends on how the car is used and how frequent oil changes are done.
This series is reliable for most driving but some extra precautions should be taken for track driving.

The 987 series (the yrs Tony mentions) have the Generation III IMS bearing. It has a 1% chance of failure and was not included in the class action lawsuit filed against Porsche several yrs ago. The lawyers bringing the suit didn't think that was going to help their cause of getting Porsche to pay for the earlier yrs of IMS failures, which was as high as 10% failure rate.
Oil change interval is important to IMS survival. You want an interval of 5-8K mi.
