Need Help on Rotor install
Little perplexed here,
I took off my rotors and calipers to paint them (rotor hub only) due to rust. Since my rotors are pretty much new after I painted the hub I went to put the rotors back on the car. These are the exact same rotors. The fonts went on fine. Had trouble with both rears. I let down the emergency brake and that allowed the passenger side rear to go on easy. But for the life of me I cannot get the driver rear rotor to go back on. I read the article on adjusting the brake shoes so the rotor can fit over them but I got kind of lost in the article. Can someone in laypersons terms tell me what is happening here and how can it possible be fixed. I have all three rotors on save the driver's rear Thanks |

what car are you talking about here? Your avatar has 87 carrera but this is a boxster/cayman forum.

Irrespective of the car, parking brake mechanism can often get sticky. The parking brake adjustments on air-cooled 911s and Boxster/Caymans are similar. There is a threaded star wheel on a turnbuckle between the shoes, on the Boxster-Cayman this is at the bottom of brake drum area. You should spin this using a screw driver blade so that it is all the way retracked. It doesn't hurt to put a few drops of oil it if it is stiff. This should allow you to get the disk/drum back on the hub.
You'll then need to readjust the parking brake using these star adjusters. You want them set so that the wheel can just rotate freely when the parking brake is down. The wheel should be held tight when the parking brake is pulled up.
