Minimum equipment required to run 987 engine

Image an empty shell and I that I have fitted an engine and a manual box into the shell.

What are the bare minimum electrical components I would need to fit to get it run?

I am building a Bugster (Boxster shell cloaked in 1303s beetle body. The shell is done and painted.

I bought a 2007 Boxster less it’s engine and front seats. I am finding wires cut and the ecu under seat missing, I have replaced the airbags, seat belts and controller.

My thoughts are to remove everything I don’t want and repair the electrical system to what I do want and then to transfer everything to the Bugster shell

I would like to remove: central locking, aircom, spoiler, roof, heater, radio system, door airbags etc.

Any help would be appreciated and I would think thread would be good for other people trying to create race cars, etc

Thank you - Mike

Full disclosure - I'm a 986 guy, not 987.

With that being said, you probably only have 2 options.

First would be to buy a used immob/keys and ecu and fix all the wiring issues (this would be difficult)

Second is to go with a standalone ECU

If I were you, I would go standalone. Choice of system is beyond the scope of the thread (standalone are very rarely used in 986s and I would imagine the same for 987s) but my one piece of service is go with a company that has good customer service because you will need their help (you will likely be writing the tune from scratch)

I’d also check the racing forum for how they strip down their systems. Maybe a racing ECU system would do it.

Some local race cars run on Motec.

Then you don't have to worry about anything.

I always dream of a boxster with open engine lid and webers stickin up... hahaha

Motecs are great systems, and are one of the few that can drive the high impedence coil packs on our cars, but damn if they are not as expensive as the car is!
