“screech”
1999 Boxster base …when starting’(especially when cold) I get a momentary “screeching noise. It only lasts fora second. It’s been doing this since I purchased it 4 years ago. Any thoughts based on experience?

It can be serpentine belt or pulley related. Replace the belt if you haven't already done so and before putting on the new belt, make sure to spin every pulley that you can to check for any resistance or noises.

Going faster all the time

I learned a while ago that a screech is usually a loose belt asking to be tightened.
Easy enough to inspect on a boxster, and you will feel oh so mechanically inclined.

My Boxster had a starter with probably a gummed up solenoid/starter drive that would make a screeching sound on start up sometimes, especially when cold. Basically, it doesn't disengage from the ring gear quick enough when the engine fires, so spins for a split second at a zillion rpm.
Probably could have cleaned up the old starter, but decided to just put a new one in while everything was apart.
