Which one? 6 or 4 cylinder?
I am hearing all kinds of feedback on purchasing the 2013-2016 Boxster with the 6 cylinder of the updated four cylinder turbo starting with the mid 2016 model (718). I prefer the PDK transmission.
All the youtube test drive videos are not very kind to the four cylinder based on exhaust sound and pickup. I came across a table of Porsche technicians recently at a local restaurant from a nearby Porsche dealership and could not help but ask the guys, "what would you choose between the Boxster six cylinder and the four cylinder turbo"? The consensus was the six cylinder (2015-2016 model). Does anyone have any opinions on either model (engine)? Thanks Bob 73.5T 911 |

I have a few owners with the 4 cylinder car tell me that they like it very much. I think you need to test both and decide. I have a 6 cylinder Boxster S but would still drive both and decide for myself.

Just purchased a 2014 S with a PDK. Absolutely love it. I bought it specifically because it is normally aspirated. I think the 718s sound awful IMHO.

First off - any Porsche is a great car. Some are just loved less than others.
People hated 914s, hated 964s, hated 986s back in the day - but now - they have a lot more love. The 4 cylinder 718 doesn't get a lot of love now - but that may be the exact reason why it is a buy. I know there are detractors - but come on - Porsche knows how to build an engine - and the 4 cylinder turbo is a gem. It is just not a normally aspirated 6 cylinder which - yes - sounds better - and - will probably hold it's value better. I guess it depends on your own circumstances. Is this a buy and hold forever? If so, I expect the 6 cylinder is a better choice. But - the 4 cylinder will fare better than the coming electric 718. Take a look at the eye-watering depreciation on Taycans. Cheers!

to me its your choice, if you can drive both that'd be great. Porsches with smaller engines are exceptional fun.
