Key Stuck in the ignition
Im hoping somebody can help. I have a 2003 986 Automatic. The ignition seems to have a issue and it will not release the Key. The ignition will Start the car and shut it off, but when you turn the key back to the lock position to pull the key out of the ignition it will not go to the lock position. Im assuming the Ignition will need replaced but im not sure if i need to replace the Electronic Ignition switch or if i need to replace the Mechanical ignition assembly as well. Also would anybody have any advice on how to actually remove the key from the Ignition while its still in the car. Thanks for any help with this issue!

Well the electronic part of the ignition is cheap enough that I'd start with that. The mechanical/lock cylinder part is not as inexpensive. It's a pain in the butt to replace the electrical part because it's at the back for the assembly and high up under the dash but it is doable as I just replaced mine. I'm no lightweight at 6'1" 300lbs so it may be easier for someone of less girth. Plenty of YouTube videos to show you how to do it. I bought mine from Amazon because I wanted it quickly but the OEM Porsche part wasn't that expensive and without the time constraints I'd likely have just gotten that one.

Normally a key gets stuck in the ignition when the battery is dead, and will release when charged
