Disconnecting the battery
I have a true-flow air induction system sitting in my garage. It just consists of a drop in high flow filter and air-induction tube. I will install that someday but I noticed in the instructions they recammnend disconnecting the battery during instal to prevent CEL's I believe. Since the ECU is "adaptable," why would rebooting the ECU be necessary? Just wondering if you guys have heard of this.

If you introduce new values that vary significantly from the adaptive values, it can trigger a CEL.
Disconnecting the battery blows away the adaptation values and you start from factory baseline. You don't "have" to disconnect the battery, it is just a common practice. AFJ

I didn't know rather to reply here or on the "radio code" thread, but I learned something today while replacing my battery. I powered the car thru the cigarette lighter with a spare, weak battery during the change out. Didn't loose a thing..........including my CEL which got triggered by a coolant issue, I believe. I also intalled a new 01 cap under the filler, so we'll see about the CEL resetting itself w/o me interupting the current for an hour.
Anyway, no re-doing the radio presets. I like it. |
