1999 Boxster?

I need a bit of help/opinion for the Boxster group. I'm considering a '99 Boxster, auto tiptronic, sport package w/ 45K miles. Are there any problems with that model year that I need to be aware of?

Hi,
I own a 1999 Boxster (with manual transmission). I've had this car for almost 3 years and have not had any problem with it. I only have 22K miles on the car, so I can't say if any problem will arise later. It's certainly a very fun car, although not as fast as the later Boxster model.

Thanks Michael, I think I'll take the plunge.

Also a happy owner of a '99 5spd w/27k miles and counting. I've owned mine for a year and a half and the only problem I've had is a faulty seatbelt catch (the belt worked, but something electronic made my airbag light come on). It was fixed under warranty.

If you can stand being a little underpowered (compared to other Pcars) I think you'll be very happy. Some of the early '99s still had leftover "bad motor" problems, but they would have reared their head relatively early in the mileage. I think making it to 45k puts you well into the safe range.

Good luck!

check out the most recent issue of 911 and Porsche World (I think) (I may have been GT purely Porsche)

It compared the 2.5 liter car with the most recent offering, the 2.5 compared very favorably.

On problems, I have 2000 so best I can do is second hand ...
Rear seals sometimes leak, oil separators have problems, MAF is easily damaged.

Other than that there have been many niggling electrical probelms reported, almost always a cheap fix.

Thanks for your info guys. I brought it home for a more thorough inspection and now I can't get my wife out of it. I guess it's staying. It has about the same power as my 911 but it also has more weight. Nice power, good brakes and great handling make this a pretty fun car. If it was an "S" with a stick I'd be tempted to drive it myself! I wonder if she will ever drive the minivan again? Here is a pic. My bro & kid in the car.

Beautiful. My first Boxster was an Ocean Blue '99. Great color. Hope it gives you many years of enjoyment!
