thanks very much, appreciate it. I just bought a 97 c4s, and have a 930, but man after dicking with 911 cabs from 78 to 94 911's, i am really liking my boxster and have bought 3 of them as I fell into some great deals. now, i bought a boxster s engine and am looking into that but it looks like i will put together a 2000 model with a 996 engine, and will keep it. all this poor mans porsche crap, porsche wanna be bs, i have to say i really enjoy the boxster and look to whoop ass on my 911 friends, and just may sell the c4s. thanks as we need to continue to build out the boxster side of pelican threads.

I have a 3.4 996 conversion using a 97 m.y. car as they are the lightest. Car is super tossable and handles more speed through corners than any car I have driven. I have dropped another 180lbs from the stock weight. Have 996 brakes, headers and hi flo cats. Great torque, super handling and very very fun to drive. With two trunks and good reliablity, seems like a perfect car, although it is still lacking the blow out acceleration I love. I think a TT would be the ultimate but you would most likely lose the back trunk. STill a fascinating idea........

riverflyer,

sounds awesome, please post all the info on your 3.4L, as i'm seriously looking into the purchase of a boxster within 6 months with the sole intention of doing an engine swap.

who did the swap? where were the parts sourced from? costs? how'd you shed the 180 lbs? any suspension mods?

i'm considering going for an "S" for the brakes, 6-speed, and e-gas in order to use the 3.6L. however, i'm cautious as to the weight gains. thoughts?

The conversion was done by the former owner at Autosport Enginieering in Stow Ma. 978 562 7300.
996 3.4, TTP headers, TTP hi flo cats, TTp intake and ecu reprogram, lightweight flywheel. I just added Bilstein sports struts and eibach progressive springs. 996 brakes, Fikse wheels. The 5sp 97 gearbox was retained and for my driving needs is geared perfectly. Very great 3rd gear range.
I don't have much seat time in regular boxsters but am used to high hp cars so the 3.4 is a nice compromise.

I have 3 boxsters and am going to see what an S can do with some larger headers similar to what Instant-G advertises, and will go with a 3.4 in another, as I love the boost from my 911 turbo, but love the soft/hardtop of the boxster along with the clam shells and RH's. great to see some feedback on this board.

If you are looking to get rid of the 993 c4s..keep me in mind. I miss my Boxster dearly, and I am considering a new S when they hit the country.
