Hello,
Nick the new guy here. Just bought my 98 Box and joined the forum. Any one have a diagram or "how to" for swapping out the e-brake on a Boxster...? Just bought my first upgrade. Thanks! Hessian BTW...since it seems a rite of passage to be here, attached is a pic of my 98 Boxster with the factory aerokit. ![]() ![]()

Welcome to the BBS
Are you swapping the handle or are you swapping the e-brakes themselves? The handle is pretty easy. You remove the center console and the shifter boot. Once you get that out of the car, you can see where the handbrake lever mounts and attaches to the body\cables. AFJuvat

Just the handle. How hard is it to get the console off?
Thanks Hessian

The nice thing about boxsters is most of the interior components are "snap-together" and are not structural. You will need a torx driver, a 10mm and a couple of 13mm wrenches.
Disconnect the battery Set the parking brake Remove the shift boot (it just pops off) Remove the ashtray, and both the the coin holder and the rubber mat from the storage compartment. Remove the trim piece in the bottom of the center console (under the radio, in front of the shift boot) Remove the side trim pieces from the console - they all snap in. they will all come out with a little effort. Start taking screws out (think there are something like 8 or 10 of them.)when the console is free, it will lift off the e-brake handle. If it doesn't come free, look for hidden screws. You will now see the ebrake handle and where is is connected to the cables - Loosen and remove the two 13mm nuts on the cable tensioner, unbolt and remove the handle. Bolt in the new handle, connect the electrical bits, and re-tension the brakes. Set the E-brake handle to 4 clicks, then tighten the nuts until the brake engages. Reinstall the console, you are done.
