THe mounting hardware and support pieces are the same - I think the bumper will fit.

Only issues with 986 & 986 should be when going to a Turbo or GT2..... That's when you'll need to work it down some.....

Well, thanks for the info guys but since my front end met the rear end of a Ford F150 the insurance company is going to replace my front bumper. Accordingly, the 2001 Boxster S bumper is for sale if anyone is in the market!

You could take this opportunity to update the look of your Boxster if you wanted to. I went with an '03 bumper on my '99. With the clear lenses, it really makes it look newer/fresher.

Doug,
Thanks for the suggestion. I called the body shop today and asked them to put the 03 bumper on mine as well. It does look a lot better. Beautiful Boxster BTW. I really like the clean lines with the hard top. s/f Du

Thanks! Be sure to post a pic when you get your work done. FYI if you want to go w/clear lenses all around, the rears and side markers are cheap, but the headlights are a bit more expensive. You can get rear lenses for about $200 a pair, side markers for about $25 a pair, but the headlights will cost about $600 EACH. ..and that's not even litronic. But I really think it sharpens the look of just about any Boxster.
Cheers

Litronics Upgrade????
Doug et al,
The estimator is only authorizing replacement of one headlight. And she is quoting 600.00! I think I am going to foot the other 600-700 and upgrade to litronics. Anyone know of a good source for OEM litronics that are cheap???? Also, how hard are these to install? Thanks!!!!! DU

Try eBay for litronics. They show up every once in a while.
I ended up having my wrench install the headlights, although I'm told it's really pretty easy. I did my tail lights, and they were a snap. it just worked out best for my mechanic to do my headlights while he had my car for an semi-annual service.

You should have taken a hammer to the other light.
When my car got hit I made a deal with the body shop. I got the money for my 1997 amber headlights. My friend had just put in litronics so I borrowed his headlights for a few months while I watched ebay for cheap 996 lights. Thought about litronics but I drive very little at night and did not want to spend the money on my old car. Bought a set of 996 clear halogen lights from ebay for $300. 2 years earlier a friend in Germany had given me a set of clear tail lights that I never used because I had amber headlights. So when I got the 996 headlights I had a good excuse to put the clear tail lights on. Then I got the clear side markers for $30. One of these days I should thank the lady that backed up into me in her truck. ![]() |

Yeah, I have to say unless you really need them, save your money on the litronics. Just my personal opinion, but for one light you can take care of both of your headlights with "regular" 996 lenses.

Thanks guys. Believe me...I DID think about taking a hammer to the other light...
That said, the guy at the body shop (did I mention this is a Porsche approved shop?) REFUSES to install my litronics. He says its too much trouble because of the wiring. !?!?!?! I would never have opted for the litronics but since insurance is kicking in 689.00 for one light and I can get the kit for a little less than $500.00 out of my own pocket....I thought it might be a good time to upgrade. I found a set at Brandywine Porsche for 1200.00 shipping included but I haven't bought them yet. I do like the suggestion of buying clear 996 lights like ToolPants has...where can I get these (besides Ebay) ??? Doug mentions that they would be roughly the cost of one light? I'm definately interested. Thanks again, Du

Short of trying here on Pelican...
I bought my headlights at my dealership because, as a PCA member, I get 10% off. I bought my tail lights and side markers from Suncoast Motorsports: http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=P&Category_Code=PO I think they're about the cheapest around. They seem to have a pretty good deal on clear Boxster headlights and they're tail lights are cheaper than I paid for them (by a few bucks anyway). FYI there's very little difference between clear Boxster lamps and 996 lamps...so find whatever is cheapest. ![]()

Just called Suncoast for the clear halogen headlights ...ready for this? They list for 950.00 PER LIGHT
![]() You can get their Litronics upgrade for 1200. That includes both headlights and the wiring harness. Unless something pops on ebay...looks like litronics might be the cheaper way to go.

That's weird, I thought they were advertising $995/pair?!?
Here's the link to online: http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=98663113114AND98663113214&Category_Code=POTEBXEX I read that as sold as a pair? It does say "headlightS"?!? If they sold them separately, they'd have a "L" and "R" version, right? I'm very confused... ![]()

ME TOO!!!!
![]() 995/ per light is what the guy in the parts dept quoted me. Even at that rate for a pair, it would be more cost effective to just do litronics. I did find a clear set of halogens on Ebay thats up to 390.00 right now. Maybe I'll watch them. I followed your suggestion and they are going to install a 2003 "S" bumper. That should look pretty good I think.

Go for the eBay ones then. Although I still think that parts guy is wrong...
Cool...be sure to post a pic when your car is all updated!

Just got a call from my insurance adjuster. Now she wants to just 'buff the light out' instead of replacing it. I've been insuring with Geico for six years and now that I need them to do the right thing and make my car right they are trying to cut every corner just to save a few hundred bucks. GEICO SUCKS!
![]() I'll be calling USAA when this is all over.

Eli,
Thanks for the advice. The original adjuster was located near where I live however since the car was taken about 60 miles away to get fixed, Geico sent a different adjuster to look at the supplemental. THAT adjuster says they are just going to 'buff out' the light. My problem is this: I JUST bought a set of clear lights for the front end, banking on the alloted 689.00 from the original adjuster. I plan on calling the second adjuster back tomorrow and hoping she'll understand and let it ride as is but... I doubt it.
