Intermittent white smoke @ startup. Oil level is @ 80%. 2000 s w/ 31000 miles. Last oil change 5 months & 2000 miles ago. Is this a cause for concern?

Depends on how much smoke. A little puff that goes away quickly is no cause for concern and is considered normal.
Excessive smoke (fogging for mosquitos) indicates a failed oil\iair separator. Confirm by removing the oil fill cap with the engine running - if the vacuum tries to suck your hand into the oil tube, your separator is a goner. Not excessively difficult to replace yourself. The part is about $300 and you can replace it in a couple of hours, it is located at the rear of the engine, passenger side, top. AFJ

You can get the part for about $100-$150 (don't remember exactly) at http://www.sunsetporsche.com/porscheatcost.php
It took me about 1 1/2 hours to replace it from the top. |
