Roof Transport System for 2005 Boxster
I ordered a new 2005 Boxster and was assured by the salesman that the 2004 RTS would fit the 2005 Boxster. When my Boxster arrived the salesman said he was mistaken, the RTS for the 2004 would not fit the 2005 Boxster; but, Porsche would be developing one to fit the 2005 Boxster shortly, so I took delivery.
Well, that was eight months ago. A couple of days ago I was told by Porsche Cars North America that Porsche had no plans to build a Roof Transport System for the 2005 Boxster. If I purchased the 2004 Roof Transport System, does anyone know if the 2004 Boxster RTS could be converted to fit the 2005 Boxster? This is very important as I need the extra luggage space provided by the Roof Box (luggage carrier) to transport equipment for my work. Had I known this 10 months ago I would not have ordered the Boxster. Also, if there is no possibility to convert the 2004 RTS to the 2005 Boxster, anyone have any suggestions of how I should approach that salesman and the dealership? I called Porsche Stuttgart Germany and spoke with customer support and explained my dilemna. They asked me for my name address, VIN number when and where I purchased the vehicle etc and asked me to send them an e-mail. I did and instead of answering my e-mail, Stuttgart Customer Support forwarded my e-mail to Porsche Cars North America. And they responded to me that Porsche Cars N.A does not respond to customer needs or problems via e mail and suggested I contact the dealer where I purchased the Boxster. I am dissappointed that Porsche does not allow me to contact Porsche in Stuttgart to find out if the 2004 RTS could be adapted for the 2005 Boxster. since my dealer, and Porsche Cars North America doesn't have a clue. Please excuse my long e-mail. Thank you, jbg31792 |

according to the techquipment catalog, the one for the boxster fits the 987 (2005+ boxster)
you could just have a clueless dealer. AFJ

no roof transport system for 2005 Boxster
Hi AFJ,
There is a roof transport sytem for the 997Porsche, but there is none available for the 2005 Boxster (987). Porsche intentionally chose to leave out & not to build the 4 attachment points for the RTS into the 2005 Boxster that they had built into the 2004 Boxster. They also failed to contact PCNA and the US Porsche Dealers and officially inform them of this matter. Consequently, my Porsche salesman, his parts department, PCNA and other dealers around the country wern't lying to me to sell me a Porsche when they said the RTS would be developed shortly for the 2005 Boxster. They were using their best judgement based on the information they had been given by Porsche. (which was none) Even though Porsche's website under Techequipment, Boxster does not show a RTS available for the 2005 Boxster, every salesman, and parts dept. around the country would naturally guess that Porsche would eventually upgrade the RTS to fit the 2005 Boxster and not deprive & leave their customers like me, who needed & wanted to buy a RTS for our cars, out to dry. I think that Porsche should be made to recall the 2005 Boxsters and make the 4 attachment points to accept the RTS. jbg31792 |
