I went over to the 996/993/964 board and 911 tech forum because the boxster one here is akin to watching grass grow and I was amazed by what I saw. That board is brimming with activity! It's like the boxster board X50 on the activity level. I wish we had that kind of enthusiasm for our boxsters over here. We get about 1 new post a day here which is pretty sad. They have about 3-4 new pages of new posts each day! I mean I know the 911 been around alot longer than the boxster thus there are more owners, but this is pretty bad. What gives?

I hear ya, half the time you don't even get a response in here. you might want to try www.986forum.com, they are very active. some of the topics are just blather, but you will get a response...I still post in the 944 spot in here, at least those guys are active..

Thanks for the advice Ferrara. I've actually been a 986forum member since Nov 2003. It is a great place for boxster info and as you said much more active than here. This is the only forum I can visit while at work so I just wish this one was a more active....oh well.:(

I just don't think there are too many Boxster "enthusiasts". ..yet. But that will changes as the "911 guys" stop bashing these fantastic cars so much and come to realize how great they really are. It's a slow process...but it's happening.

I did a search for 986 and boxster on the 911 forums and I was surprised that there wasn't one negative comment. One 911 owner asked about buying a boxster and the other 911 members were surprisingly supportive of buying one and many called it a great car. :confused: I guess they are coming around because I was expecting to see some bashing of "our" car. It's good to see that maybe there doesn't have to be divided lines and the 911 guys and the boxster guys can all get along. :)

The problem is a lot of posers drive Boxters. I recently commented to a Boxter owner that I liked his car. I said, "Oh, it's an S. So, it has a 3 liter?" He said he wasn't sure.

Similarly, I live in an area with a lot of Cayennes. Can't believe how many of them need a simple car wash. You would think if somebody is dropping $70K+ into a car they might at least care for it.

That is true...there are non-enthusiasts that drive boxsters that buy the car for one reason or another, but there are a good deal out there now that track/auto-X the car and they also do DIY maintence. I'm sure there are some owners...particulary 996/997 that don't have a clue about their car too... I haven't posted a pic up here yet so I'm going to give it a shot and hijack my own thread. Here is my S at an auto-x this past summer. The other is of my Dad's M5 at the same auto-X.

Porsche Daddy I spend a lot of time in the 911 forums (obviously, now that I have an old 911) and it's refreshing to see how many of "them" are coming around. There are still a lot of posers driving the newer Porsches...there always will be. But now that the early Boxsters are dropping down into the same price range as a good 911, it's making the choice tougher for true enthusiasts looking for a good Porsche.

What's up with the hand paint at the end?

The whole event was a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald house(s) in the Dayton area. I think the hand paint on the car was just another way of raising funds, but also to get children involved. The paint was water soluable (?sp), so it washed right off (..er, after the event of course). I forget how many hands they got on the car...the website might have a photo of the "finished" vehicle.

It's no doubt just a lack of Boxter owners that are enthusiast - Give it time. Keep in mind that much fo the 911 forum is about AX and DE events as well as different people with some upgrade questions and repair questions. The boxter for the most part is a ready to go out the box kind of car and most people are not ready to modify it yet, not to mention most repairs arnt exacly DIY due to all the electronics.

But they are nice cars.

I guess I am a Boxter enthusiast since I am in year number 7 of ownership.

Back when I started every Boxter was under warranty, which is funny, since it was just a 2 year warranty back then. The local owners would not even change a light bulb, because somehow that would screw up the car if they did it themselves.

It is just a car, like any other car. So I though if I hung around for a few years the local owners might start doing things themselves and getting into it. It did happen in our local group of owners.

Local owners have come and gone since then but there is always a core group of locals. That is what runs the local show.

I do not think I have ever asked a question on Pelican, because I have other sources.

So, my first question is, should we eliminate the "s".

...er, no. If only because that's what separates the enthusiasts from the non enthusiasts...the knowledge of how to actually spell Boxster.

...which is really sad, if you think about it... :(
