Water in passenger side footwell - HELP!
Can someone help me.
I bought my 1st Boxster a week ago and to be honest, I've had a fair few problems. The car has got 19" alloys on, and it's been lowered, all by Porsche I may add - so hardly a cheap, backstreet job. These modifications were already on the car when I purchased it. Anyway...on with the problem... Basically, there is a massive amount of water leaking into the passenger footwell. However, the roof is dry as is the dash etc - it's just the footwell. Any suggestions? Any constructive comments would be much appreciated! Cheers, Leon. |

Perhaps you forgot to close the window when you washed it?
Just kidding; good luck, I hope you find the problem and let us know. |

Leon Callon - Water in Footwell
Hi Leon,
I am experiencing the same problem at the moment,.. it has led to other issues such as the carpet by the door sills being constantly wet, which in turn has lef to the bonnet release electrics tripping and unlatching the bonnet. Thus far, without making that expensive trip to the garage I have searched out two possible answers, both feasible - 1. The Aircon tubes are blocked/leaking - in which case you need check this, I hope to try this myself in the next few days. 2. The hood ducts have got blocked whilst the car has been used with the top down, and you are seeing the affects now,.. solution check and clear. I have 'sanity' checked these possibilities with people who are more car-practical than I, and both have come up as reasonable assessments. It is not a unheard of fault and certainly in my case has nothing to do with the hood or windows being left open (I went through hell trying to blame the wife for that one!) Let me know how you get on - or if you manage to resolve, Good Luck!!! |

Funny you should email. I've just got a call from the garage. They have got the car, and will have for the remainder of the week. Basically, the problem looks to be coming from around the heater box. Not good. The garage are going to have to get the heater box out and check it out and all the areas surrounding it - this may involve taking out the dash which in itself isnt a small job. Expense - no idea, neither do the garage as they are unusure of the amount of time needed to get at the heater box. Aparantly though the mechanic has sat (upside down) in the car and looked up at the heater box etc (where your feet would normally be) and can see the water pouring in etc. He used to work for Lotus so has dealt with similar probs. At least we've found the area the water is coming in. As I know see it, we need to get the heater box out, find a hole (Im kinda hoping there is one) around the box somewhere, seal it and we're good to go. Cheers for the response. I hope your problem is a lot less complicated and expensive. A disappointed Boxster owner, Leon. |

Hi Leon, Oh hell - that doesn't sound good,.. hope that it does not work out too costly!! Do let me know if you can give me any further tips as it transpires - As it scares me everytime I put mine anywhere near a garage!!!
When the weather improves you will love the car, despite the costs I still have no regrets,... one hint - pending how old yours is(warranties etc) it is worth taking to a reputable specialist rather than a main dealer,.. though if you have an ex-Lotus tech,.. that seems to be a good start! Good luck on it, and roll-on Summer, Cheers - Ryan |
