Question Porsche Reliability?

Hey? Just saw an early sumery of the Consumer Reports Auto issue. Lists Porsche as the anticipate least reliable of all automakers.

What's up with this? Is it due to the enginerring or the way most Porsches are driven - fast and hard?

What he said. Unfortunately, the Cayenne is really bringing the rest of the company down in terms of reliability. Yet, even with that, Porsche is still ranked 2nd behind Lexus in customer satisfaction.

Exactly. That thing is a rolling disaster.

That being said, porsches are not toyotas. In general you should not expect major disasters, but don't be supprise if every 2 years you need some misc. sensor or 'control unit' replaced to the tune of $500.

The 04 and 05 had horrendous electrical problems. Most of those tied up with the MOST data bus. (Lets integrate everything, to include the sound system, and use fiber optics for a lot of it!!)

This, coupled with a spare parts supply that was not up to the task and you had cases of cars going to dealers for minor repairs and not leaving for weeks. That is a bit of a hard sell when you just spent $65K+ for a SUV.

Most of the bugs are out now, and the spare parts supplies are up to snuff. The electrical issues will persist, but are getting better.

Within a year or two, the quality will be up to where we expect any Porsche car to be.

FWIW, reliability ratings be damned, they sold more cayennes than any other model combined....

granted, that issue of consumer reports came out this year, but lets also not forget about the infamous engine failures of the earlier boxsters, like mine and thousands of other owners experienced.. i asked porsche to help me out and they basically laughed.. for me, porsche's customer satisfaction and reliability gets a 4 out of 10.. (i'd rate them as high as 4 only because of the newer boxsters, 911's, etc dont seem to be experiencing these issues)
