Steering wheel emblem replacement

Hi,

I am the proud owner of a MY 2000 (986) Porsche Boxster S which as we all know shares many components with the 996.
The black-and-white emblem on my three-spoke steering wheel was already scratched when I bought the car used three years ago.
I have asked my local Porsche dealership for a replacement part (in fact I wanted to get the full colour later version) and they have informed me that if I wish to replace the emblem, then I need to replace the complete airbag unit !!!
Does anyone out there know of an alternative solution to the official Porsche position ?

thanks a lot, Merry Christmas and happy motoring next year,

Meletis

Unfortunately, that is the only option. You can stick another emblem on it with glue, but you run the risk of it becoming a deadly projectile if the airbag should ever deploy.

Porsche Crest

Thanks a lot for the information.
I was afraid that might be the case and sticking something on to the airbag DIY fashion is not an option.

all the best,

Meletis

I have had great success in the past hand painting the emblem with enamel, then clear coating it several times for depth. If you have a steady hand (or know someone that does) the results can be extremely good. I recall years ago I purchased a 930S steering wheel from AJR; the emblem was plain gold. I handpainted it and you could not tell it didn't come this way. I've also hand painted the center caps on my 911 Fuchs wheels in the past.

If attached properly Just as Genuine ones are it won't be an issue.....

I can tell you how to get the unit apart of you're still interested in the DIY.
